Hi everyone. Where has my mojo gone?? .... I have been trying to make some more Easter cards, but things just weren't working out. It happens to all of us ... but it's been three days of this - which is really long for me :( I'm thinking that the kids will get a bag of treats and no cards this year. Yep, I need to let myself off the hook. :)
So today I didn't even attempt an Easter card ... instead I tried making some roses with my Rose Creation die from Spellbinders. I had seen some gorgeous hand-made roses on SCS by Joanna Krog ... amazing!! I thought I should give it a try. Well, it went ... OK. I still need to work on them, but I think I'm on the right track. Just need to figure out an easier way to get the petals to stay "scrunched up" ... I'm thinking glue. I'll do some more practicing ... but for now, I'm using one of my roses for this card. Happy with how this card turned out in the end ... this is after I broke my favorite fern punch (it had been giving me trouble for a while so I guess I should have picked up on the fact that it was done). I subbed in some olive branch dies instead and I'm really happy with how they look ... these are the darker sprigs covered with white flowers.
So I'm happy that I made a card that I actually get to share with you :) And making something that is pretty makes me happy too. Hope you like.
Stamps: Whimsical words (SU!)
Paper: White, Raspberry Ripple, Certainly Celery, Wild Wasabi (SU!)
Ink: Raspberry Ripple, So Saffron (SU!)
Accessories & Tools: Big Shot, Rose Creation Nestabilities (Spellbinders), Little Leaves die (Sizzix), Olive branch die and 8-petal die (C.C. Designs), paper piercing tool, stylus and mat, Stamp-a-ma-jig, glue, and dimensionals
I pierced a square about 3/4" in from all sides of the front panel. I stamped the sentiment in Raspberry Ripple using the Stamp-a-ma-jig for placement.
I die-cut the Rose from Raspberry Ripple cardstock and used my stylus and mat to shape the petals and then glued all the layers together.
I created a triangle of Little Leaves die-cut from Certainly Celery cardstock. Then I added another triangle of Olive branch dies on top out of Wild Wasabi cardstock (the triangles need to be off-set from each other). I placed the rose in the center and added both sizes of the 8-petal flower dies (the larger ones have a center dot of So Saffron ink).
Here's a close-up of the rose spray:
Loll this is gorgeous! Looks like you found your mojo to me!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is absolutely gorgeous! You definitely have your mojo...! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing! :)
ReplyDeleteWell, if this is the result of having no mojo for Easter cards, it's worth it!! What a gorgeous spray of flowers!
ReplyDeleteLoll this is amazing! Your rose looks so rich and velvety!! I love your layout too. Cathy x
ReplyDeleteI love everything - the rose (what do you mean it went OK), the olive branch with those cute little flowers and also the pierced frame! Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow, so simple and so absolutely stunning, this card is just terrific, love that gorgeous rose!!
ReplyDeleteLove it Loll.
hugs
Donna
Loll this is gorgeous! You found your mojo today for sure!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful card; it has a lovely fresh look about it. I'm sorry you broke your favorite fern punch. If it's the same as mine, you may want to look into CheeryLynn Designs' Wreath Strip die -- http://www.cheerylynndesigns.com/wreath-strip/ -- it's also easier on the hands than a punch. I hope your mojo returns, although so far so good without it!
ReplyDeleteHi Alice. Thanks so much for the info about the wreath strip die. How great will it be to die-cut seven branches at once!! ... And the dies are definitely easier on my hands. I've already ordered it and can't wait for it to be delivered!! Loll
DeleteHi Loll, what a gorgeous card! I just love your rose! I sure understand about the mojo thing...so frustrating. I sometimes find I just sit and stare at my stuff...but then it all returns...YIPEE! You do such beautiful work when your mojo is happening, so yes, let yourself off the hook with the cards for the kids, and just enjoy the holiday weekend!! (Easier said than done, I know)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous rose and spray Loll. TFS the close up too. Your colors and layout are perfect too. TFS
ReplyDeleteThe rose and the entire flower corner looks fabulous! So elegant and stylish. Maybe your mojo just didn't want to make Easter cards this year and is looking for hot summer makes already? :) Have a good Easter!
ReplyDeleteThink it might be the weather Loll........hard to think of spring, Easter, lambs and bunnies in the midst of arctic weather! Love how your card turned out - so elegant and CAS. You mention about getting the rose to stay "scrunched"....... if you lightly spritz your die cut cardstock with water, scrunch it up and then make up into your rose it stays scrunched......no need for any more glue. Seems a wee bit radical but works a treat.

Wow, what a stunner, Loll...definitely deserves a frame, don't squish it into an envelope! The dimension is incredible and your whole card has all the hallmarks of your clean, crisp simplicity!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the little flowers and the little olive die...must look it up. I have not seen it. The rose is perfect. I think you are too hard on yourself! LOL
ReplyDeleteWOW really love this card the rose is good but I know what you mean about keeping the petels shaped. i dip my flowers in water and squeeze excess out then shape, not sure if this would work with this die though.hope this helps. Sue
ReplyDeleteHi Sue. Thanks for the tip. Another friend also suggested water and I know that when wet cardstock dries, it becomes very hard - which would then hold it's shape. I might try misting my roses after I've made them and see if it works. Thanks again. Loll :)
DeleteStunning card-so very pretty and the sentiment is perfect :)
