Hi everyone. Here's my Design Team card for the latest challenge at Addicted to CAS. I'm really happy with how these tulips turned out in the end, but I must warn you that they were a little fiddly to make, and working with glue can be messy ... but fun! :)
I'm quite proud of myself because I used the same die that I've used recently (it's a five petal flower I used for my polka-dot card candy), shaping it differently to create tulips. I love when I can figure out different flowers using just one die! :)
On to the challenge. This one is being run by the lovely and talented Natasha (Astero's Crafty World), and she chose this fabulous code word ...
This challenge is sponsored by All That Scraps
Prize: 3 Rubber Stamps from the CC Designs Range
OR 5 Digital Stamps of your choice
will be awarded to the CAS PERFECTIONIST
(please follow the rules of the challenge to be eligible to win)
You have heard me say before how much I love AmyR stamps ... and today I used one from my favorite sets called Be Happy. AmyR stamps are available at All That Scraps (our sponsor) ... and I also used the Five Point Flower die (C.C. Designs - Cutters) to create my tulips, also sold at All That Scraps. I have many of their wonderful line of C.C. Designs dies - called Cutters.
Stamps: Be Happy (AmyR)
Paper: River Rock, White, Wild Wasabi, Real Red (SU!)
Ink: Basic Black (SU!)
Accessories & Tools: Big Shot, Five Point Flower die and 8 Petal Flowers and Branch die (C.C. Designs), Dancing Tulip die (leaves only) and Flutter Vine die (stems only) both from Memory Box; stylus and mat, paper piercing tool, glue, white baker's twine (SU!), Stamp-a-ma-jig, and dimensionals
The tulips were not too difficult to make ... just a little playing around until I got the right steps. I'm hoping to write a tutorial when I have some free time.
Basically, I die-cut two of the large five point flowers. I shaped the first one with my stylus and mat (cupping) and then cut a slit between two of the petals (not all the way to the center of the flower). I cut another slit between two petals, but not one that is right beside the first slit (hope that makes sense). I pulled the two petals together on either side of one of the slits, lining them up and then glued them together. I repeated with the other petals on either side of the second slit - this gave me the base tulip shape with three complete petals. I cut three petals from the remaining five point flower, shaped (cupped) them, and then glued them on top of the base flower, making sure to place the petals over the seams created by the previous row. I let it dry for about 10 minutes.
Then I pierced a hole down the center of the tulip, cut a thin strip of green cardstock for a stem and threaded the stem through the hole. I bent the top 1/4" edge and placed glue on it and then slowly pulled it back down through the tulip until the glued end reached the inside bottom of the tulip - I let it dry.
I shaped the small 8-petal white flower with my stylus and glued them onto the stems of the Flutter Vine die so that it looks similar to baby's breath - at least, that's what I was going for :)
Here's another angle shot of the card so you can see all the dimension from the bouquet of tulips ...
I hope I have inspired you to join us for this fun challenge. Check out the other fabulous creations by the Design Team members at ATCAS!

Stunning card Loll - I love those tulips and how clever to work out how you could make them from the dies you already have. Love the dimension and I don't think I've ever seen paper tulips......they are so effective.
