Hi everyone. And a special "hi" to my friends Nancy and Carole ... both of whom had emergency heart surgery this week. So happy that everything went well ... take care and rest up!
Today's card is for a "new to me" challenge called Fusion (Challenge #11). I used the sketch only part of the challenge (fabulous sketch by Jackie). I kept the card very CAS with lots of white space, which really highlights the beautiful spray of copper leaves. Hope you like.
Stamps: Just Believe - sentiment (SU!)
Paper: White (C.C. Designs)
Ink: Brown (ColorBox)
Accessories & Tools: Big Shot, Little Leaves die (Sizzix), Copper metal sheet .005 thickness (K&S Precision Metals), Mini Butane torch, 1 1/4" square punch, Stamp-a-ma-jig, glue, glue dots, and dimensionals
I die-cut the copper leaves and then heated them with my butane torch until the color changed.
I punched out 12 - 1 1/4" squares from white cardstock and glued three layers together for each of the four squares and placed them on my main panel (dry fit) to figure out where I wanted the sentiment. I removed the squares, stamped the sentiment, and then adhered the squares into place, popping them up for added dimension. The main panel was then attached to the card base, again popped up for more dimension. I attached the copper leaves using three glue dots.
Here's a close-up of the leaves:
Edited: The mini butane torch I used is actually a creme brulee torch that is sold in cooking shops. Perfect size for heating the small copper die-cuts. Please make sure to have your copper on a heat-proof surface when using the torch (I used a 8"x8" brick).
Absolutely stunning Loll...love how the leaves change colour when heated..must give this a try

Wow - this is CAS perfection!!
ReplyDeleteStunningly beautiful, Loll! I love how the light catches the copper leaves.
ReplyDeleteOh.My.Goodness! This is so stunning. Never worked with the metals before, and wouldn't have known about the butane stuff. You come up with the most amazing ideas. Absolutely love the copper up against the white squares. So dramatic. TFS & yet another fab idea
ReplyDeleteLoll, I'm blown away by how lovely this is!!! Years ago I did some heating of copper sheets for cards, but I haven't thought of doing it for years - and I certainly never thought of die-cutting the copper. Guess what I'll be doing when my visitor has gone and I can have my craft room (aka guest room) back? Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the white on white...it really highlights those gorgeous leaves!
ReplyDeleteThat card is outstanding...simple yet dramatic. Who knew a butane torch was a craft tool? You are amazing. Resting is no problem :) Hugs Carole
ReplyDeleteWow! the leaves look amazing! The copper on the white squares is so striking Loll, such a beautiful card. Cathy x

Wow is all I can say - stunning and dramatic. Just asked husband for a mini-butane torch - his reply: oh - ok. Your creations bring joy to me and all, I hope.
ReplyDeleteI'm speechless. Also, I can't move.

ReplyDeleteClassic, elegant, understated beauty! love it Loll!
ReplyDeleteI truly had to laugh when I read this post. The card is beautiful but all I could think of was what I posted last week as my FB status: I am the God of Hellfire! (as in the song) because the power went out and I lit a candle....and then the power came back on! You and your torch may now have the honor of being the God of Hellfire! LOLOL Hope it makes you smile today.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Would the butane torch I have to make creme brule work?
ReplyDeleteHi Deborah ... yes, a creme brulee torch is what I use for heating my copper. I've added the info to the post above for others. Loll :)
DeleteLoll, this is gorgeous! I love all things copper. Where do you but the copper sheets? Do they come from a hardware store? This is amazing.
ReplyDeleteHi Sylvia. I have to find a new source for my copper sheets (and I'm now out - yikes!). The craft store where I used to buy them went out of business. I have a place I want to check out and will let you know if it works. FYI, the copper comes in sheets and it's 36 gauge (or 5 ml). Loll xx
DeleteThese copper leaves are so special, Loll! All that wonderful white space shows them off perfectly!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful-I love copper anything. Thanks for the info on how and where.
ReplyDeleteWow! This card is so simple and elegant. I love that copper leaf! Into my personal favs. Hugs....Leanne

I wanted to try making this beautiful card. Since I don't have any copper or a butane torch, I used guilding flakes in harvest moon and mulled wine. And since I don't have the little leaf die, I used a maple leaf die, cutting two leaves (first put double-sided adhesive on your card stock). I then put the guilding flakes on the leaves, rubbed off the excess flakes, and then put 3 layers of clear embossing powder on the leaves. They're beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGreat way to make the leaf embellishment Barney! Love gilding flakes and have made the same leaf sprig with just a little of them, along with gold embossing powder and added thick clear over top. So I know how beautiful that looks! Loll :)
