Hi everyone. Haven't been on-line much for the past several days. Have been ill and also dealing with a short (four day) heat wave in our area. Thank goodness it has cooled to a comfortable temperature today, so I spent a little time in my studio making a card. After all the heat, it seemed like a good idea to make a "cool card" :)
This card is for the Sparkle's Creations Christmas Card Challenges #31 - paper piecing (one of my favorite techniques, so I had to enter) :)
I'm still a little unclear of the name of the blog ... I thought it was Weekly Christmas Card challenges, but noticed that they ask for people to tag any on-line galleries with the keyword: SCCC - so hope I have it correct this week. :)
I used a cute digital image from Bugaboo, paper piecing the different elements. I added ripped "snow" to the bottom and had the penguin holding the sentiment as a sign. Hope you like.
Stamps: Little Penguin Winter (Bugaboo); Snowman Sayings (Amy R)
Paper: White (C.C. Designs); Gray, Crushed Curry, Gumball Green, Christmas DP from 2012 (SU!)
Ink: Cherry Cobbler, Basic Gray (SU!)
Accessories & Tools: sponges, Crystal Effects, Cherry Cobbler Twine (SU!), white gel pen, clear stickles, glue, adhesives, and dimensionals
I printed out the image onto white cardstock and fussy-cut to use as a base. I then printed off the image again onto the different papers, cutting and paper piecing. (I sponged gray ink around the body of the penguin before adding the gluing to the base penguin.) The nose is covered with Crystal Effects to give it shine and dimension. I added a little detailing on his feet with a white gel pen and added clear stickles along the top of the snow drifts.
The sign was stamped, framed and hung with twine.
I used very heavy paper for the card front and snow drifts (C.C. Designs 110 lb.) - it makes for wonderful ripped edges.
Here's a close-up so you can see more details:
What a sweet penguin! Gorgeous paper piecing and I love how the tiny bit of white on his feet makes him almost 3D!! Hope you are fully recovered soon, take care in the heat too :) Cathy x
ReplyDeleteOh, Loll, I love it, so very cute, love the use of the twine and also glossy accents on the feet, sweet little card!!!
ReplyDeleteThink I will put my thinking cap on for xmas, it usually takes me forever and I end up rushing at the last minute.
Thanks much for the inspiration!!!
hugs

Your little Penguin is delightfully adorable. Great paper piecing, and he did inspire a breath of 'coolth'. Loved how you added the torn paper & stickles for the snow effect. It's been fairly cool here close to Boston, gray & overcast. But I think that is about to end, and the heat start back. Cooler than SC anyway. Found a great stamp store (Absolutely Everything,Topsfield, MA) and so my afternoon was fabulous. Expensive...but FABULOUS! TFS & Hugs.
ReplyDeleteHi Loll, so sorry to hear you've not been well. Hope you're feeling much better - nothing worse than combining illness with a heatwave (although what should I know living in the UK? lol). Such a gorgeous and cute penguin, perfectly paper pieced by the Queen of PP. Love the snow - that paper really tears well.
