Hi everyone. Day 2 of the stenciling course and lots of new techniques today. I'm still working on yesterday's lessons. This technique is to use misting with stencils. I don't have any mists, but I do remember a long time ago, watching an SU! video about mixing up your own, so that's what I did. In my water mister bottle, I mixed water, re-inkers and a couple of drops of shimmer paint. I made two colors, Daffodil Delight and Real Red.
I again made my own stencil using Whisper White card stock and my Silhouette Cameo. It all worked pretty well to get the background paper for my main panel above, but I had several failures. I taped down my stencil onto my card stock in a couple of places and started spraying. Unfortunately it bled on me ... so here are the two things I learned. Add temp adhesive to the back of stencils to help keep the seal tight ... and it might be worth investing in misting sprays because maybe my home-made one was too watery (although just sticking down the stencil may have solved the problem). Anyways, the above piece turned out and it is so shimmery in real life (hard to tell in the photo).
I stamped a bee, colored with Copics and added some dazzling diamonds to the wings and then fussy-cut. It is popped up at the tail end of the Simon Says die-cut "happy". And I stamped the "bee" onto a separate piece of white card stock and popped it up as well. I backed the panel in black to tie to the black in the words and then popped the main panel up on my card front. In the end, I'm pretty happy with this card.
Stamps: Garden Oasis (Fiskars); Word Salad (Paper Smooches)
Paper: Whisper White; black, white
Ink: Black, Daffodil Delight, Real Red (SU!); Copics: Y21
Accessories & Tools: Silhouette Cameo (to cut stencil), Happy die (Simon Says), dazzling diamonds, black twine
Loll, I made my own but I used rubbing alcohol instead of water. Maybe try that before you give up. :) This is a fabulous card! I love your work so much!
ReplyDeleteOkay I'll be good and comment! You are doing a fabulous job with this class. Thanks for sharing what you are doing -- I am taking the class through you.... :)
ReplyDeleteI guess that's why we take classes, to try different things and see what works. Even if this isn't your first try, you did end up with a great card.
ReplyDeleteLoll, it's FAB ulous! I haven't had a chance to go over any of the class material just yet. If you start with the sprays, try the Dylusions - I have had better success with those than any others I've tried. I also learned to dilute them...Youtube Joggles has a great video (so does her website) on how the dilutions can add to your colors. But you can just dilute them with water as you're spraying. Shirley D has great success with that. Great work & I can see you're having such fun with the class. TFS & Hugs
ReplyDeleteMy friend here (Ougot2) also known as Gloria is taking the same class! Love what you did. Hugs............
ReplyDeleteReally nice card, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Looks like you are learning a lot from those classes!
ReplyDeleteInteresting. Thank you for sharing and I really like this bee card.
ReplyDeleteLoll, I think you should bee happy with this card..."grin". Love the homemade mists you came up with...such pretty colors! This class is just full of awesome info isn't it?
ReplyDeleteLoll, this card is fabulous! Your two-toned misting is perfect and I bet it's gorgeous in real life with the shimmer!
ReplyDeleteIf you weren't happy with this card, I'd have to question my taste - I think it's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful card, Loll. Thanks for the tips on both securing the stencil and the spray. I'm probably going to go the same route re the spray rather than buy a special product straight up.
ReplyDeleteLove your card, Loll! Your spraying is so neat (unlike mine!). Love the bee happy theme too.
ReplyDeleteAnother great card using your stencils Loll - we have to work with what we've got or we'd forever be buying stash...............oh, forgot, we do that already!!! lol I've just posted a card using a stencil but using an airbrush tool with Flexmarkers - you'll probably cover that on your course. Popped on over to the course site and couldn't believe what good value it is. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.

ReplyDeleteGreat job on your stenciling, Loll! Thanks for the tips. I don't have any mists either. I've been so busy trying to get ready for a class that I've only watched the videos for Day 1 and 2. Hopefully I can get the class finished and have some play time. Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteYour stencilling looks so crisp, it's perfect! Love the colours. TFS the tips too. Cathy x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful misting, Loll! I love how you created the gradation of colors and your bee is amazing with all that sparkle!
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous Loll, You have certainly taken the class to heart. I love your smooth soft blending of colours.

Beautiful! I have some store bought mists but they can bleed through as well so I think it's the use of the temp adhesive that will solve the problem. Your home made mist has lovely color!
