Hi everyone. My card today is a little different for me. I saw a tutorial on SCS (Splitcoast Stampers) for "faux glass" and wanted to give it a try. Of course, I didn't have the alcohol re-inkers, blending solution and fixative that's needed for the technique (all I did have was the plastic!). :) I didn't let that stop me. I tried various things, none that gave me consistent results. I did manage to cover enough plastic to cut out the two layers for the butterfly above, by scribbling Copic markers onto my craft sheet, and picking up the color with a piece of felt that was slightly wet with rubbing alcohol. The butterfly is really pretty in real life ... the full-size shot of the card doesn't do it justice, so I have a close-up below. Not sure if all the mess was worth it, but at least I gave it my best shot. Of course, if I had the right supplies, it would have gone much smoother ... I see more things being added to my wish list :)
Here's the close-up ...
I'll let you know once I get the proper supplies if this technique really works for me. The results above make me want to try again.
I embossed my card front with diamond shadows and added a cut file of hello, two layers (bottom white, top smoky slate) for some thickness. I used my Wink of Stella to add glitter to the hello and the butterfly's body.
Paper: 110 lb. white (Neenah); Smoky Slate (SU!)
Ink: Copics
Accessories & Tools: Big Shot, Diamond shadow embossing folder (Card Concepts), Silhouette Cameo, Hello cut file (Silhouette America), Moonlight butterfly die (Memory Box), clear plastic sheets (Grafix), Clear Wink of Stella pen, rubbing alcohol
TFS your technique without the proper supplies :-). You are so creative and brave. I hope you try again. TFS mf.
ReplyDeleteThis butterfly looks amazing Loll! Whatever you did worked, I love the marbled colours, Cathy x
ReplyDeletewhat a great look Loll, that butterfly is stunning..who needs the right material!
ReplyDeleteI was just looking at some cards using an alcohol background and thinking how pretty they are. Then I see this amazing butterfly! I don't have any alcohol inks either, but I think I saw something on SCS about adding alcohol to regular reinkers. I'll have to go look. This is a beautiful card, Loll! Glad you had some time to experiment.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for your perseverence Loll! your butterfly is gorgeous! (I, of course, have a drawer full of alcohol inks from some projects I saw years ago - prompltly purchased the inks and then didn't do much with them!) so when I get a minute - I'm going to try this technique as well!!
ReplyDeleteGreat results from your experimenting! The butterfly is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI watched that video from SCS too and loved the effect! You did marvelous with not having any alcohol inks! What a clever idea to use the Copic's scribbled on something and picking it up with your felt piece. I think it turned out so beautiful!! Love, love the whole card, so elegant. Hugs
ReplyDeleteBeautiful... and good for you 'experimenting' rather than rushing out to buy all the correct products. looks wonderful, Jo x
ReplyDeletegorgeous butterfly - will have to try this technique - you did it so well!
ReplyDeleteYou may not have had the supplies but whatever you did is gorgeous! I have been off to the docs frequently of late so slow liking your work but I am still here. This card is amazing! That butterfly is really beautiful and looks ready to fly away!

So pretty Loll, I saw this tutorial as well but would you believe I've recently thrown out all my plastic!!! Still I've got acetate so it should work fine with that. Love the embossing and the two tone sentiment and the butterfly is so delicate.

Clever girl...love your gorgeous butterfly. Guess we were both on the same wavelength after seeing that tutorial :) I love how you found a way to make this beauty without the alcohol inks!
ReplyDeleteJust shows how talented you are, Loll ... a simply stunning card ... and all done without the supplies you needed! Awesome butterfly ... so beautiful! Anita :)
ReplyDeleteSuper pretty!!! I love that swirly "hello" die cut. Until I read your description, I thought it was a new word die that I would be wishing for! :) So, for now I can just keep wishing for a Silhouette!! LOL!
ReplyDeleteYour plastic butterfly looks wonderful. I love the delicate coloring you've achieved with the technique that you tried (and I'll be trying this myself if I can remember it!). Doubt you could have gotten that pastel look with alcohol inks - I love your butterfly. Good for you in creating with what supplies you had available. Liked the quilty background of the embossing folder. This is just lovely, Miss Loll. Well DONE! TFS & Hugs
