Hi everyone. This card was all about experimenting. I took an watercolor on-line class a while back and just couldn't seem to watercolor flowers without making a mess. Today I took some time and realized that a lot of the problem was me :) Patience is a virtue ... definitely required for watercoloring ... and something I'm a little short on :) In the end, I did manage to wait for the different layers to dry ... and I'm happy with the final result, although there is LOTS of room for improvement.
I used one of my newest purchases for this card ... a stamp set from Clearly Besotted called Bridal Bouquet. I only used the outline stamp for the roses and then (as shirley bee would say) ... sloshed on some watercolors. :) I stamped the leaves, watercolored over them, and then re-stamped to give them more color.
I used my re-inkers for this ... diluting them with water. Some day I'll actually have to use watercolor paints ... but that's a whole new learning curve and it will have to wait. I used the color challenge from SCS (Color Challenge #486 - Old Olive, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight). Love this combination. I found that with using the re-inkers, the colors are strong and instead of a coral, I ended up with more of an orange ... still pretty!
Lots of experimenting over the past few days and I'm having some successes ... and some things end up in the garbarge ... but I'm learning, so it's all good! :)

ReplyDeleteJust stunning, my friend!! xx
ReplyDeleteWonderful job with the technique, Loll! Your patience paid off...it's a beauty!
ReplyDeleteWow! I'd say you've got it, Loll! What a pretty piece. I've used the paints and I'm a little more comfortable with them, but still prefer the reinkers! I think it's because I know those colors. This makes me want to get the water and paints out!
ReplyDeleteYour experimenting is looking mighty pretty to me Loll! I think you've got the hang of it!! I love the bold and vibrant colors in this card too, the flowers are so pretty in orange! Yes, you have made a wonderful card that is so beautiful. Hugs, Brenda

Yay, sloshing!! Love your watercolour panel - but you knew I would, didn't you?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful water coloring Loll! Mixed Media does take patience - with the drying in between - a thing I'm short on myself!! I'm learning to do the first coat - and leave it over night and do the next layer the next day but it's hard to do! These roses are lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet anniversary wishes. I think your w/c technique is terrific. Don't see any room for improvement on this pretty card. The colors are softly shaded so nicely, and I'm loving that shadowy background. Well done! TFS & Hugs.
ReplyDeleteLoll, your patience and perseverance have paid off, because this card is lovely!! Beautiful water-colouring, pretty flowers: I'd call this an A+++++ card in every way! Carry on with this technique, because I know you have plenty of 'marvelous' yet to share! I'm still pa-thet-ic with water-colouring, yet despite the epic fails, I continue to be drawn to it. And I agree: my issues are more "me" than the water-colouring itself. I shall continue to try (and I suspect Mr. Recycle will continue to enjoy snacks....many, many snacks)!

Really gorgeous water coloring, Loll! I love your flowers...the colors are just so pretty, and they really pop off the background! I think I need to practice patience, too...I'm still making a mess.
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty Loll. I've really not done proper watercoloring as I have no paints but am inspired by you using reinkers. I do have some of those, love the soft effect you created. Cathy x
