Merry Christmas

Hi everyone.  Today is the start of the Happy Little Stamper's August Sketch Challenge.

I don't have any pennant stamp or banner stamps, so this stumped me for a little while.  Then I finally came up with this idea viewing the sketch upside down.  Hmmm ... looked like hills with trees to me, albeit rainbow-coloured trees. :)

For my card, I masked the sides of my card front with large post-it notes, and also cut out my snowbank die with another post-it note to use for my hills.  The trees were inked with light green and then used a darker green marker to randomly add some interest to the trees.  I huffed on the stamp to moisten it, stamped once, and then stamped again to create a faded tree in the background (second generation stamping).  I do love this technique.

I used a sponge to add definition to the snow banks.  I added a stamped and popped up sentiment to finish.

Summer Bouquet

Hi everyone.  I was inspired to make this card by the Addicted to Stamps & More photo challenge this week ...

Love those bright and beautiful gerbera daisies. :)  I used a flower stamp from Penny Black, stamped it twice onto mixed media paper, and coloured in with my Zig Watercolour pens.  They are so bright and vibrant.  I fussy-cut them out and tied my "bouquet" together with a small piece of raffia to finish.  A few of the background flowers are adhered flush to the card front, and a few are popped up for added dimension.  I used a sentiment from a second Penny Black stamp set.

I'm entering this into the Simon Says Wednesday Challenge - Anything Goes, where they are highlighting Penny Black stamps.  I do LOVE PB and have many of their sets. :)

Two Birthdays and Two CASES

Hi everyone.  Today I'm here with a Happy Birthday wish for Chrissie (Simply One of a Kind).  Chrissie is well know throughout the crafting community as one of the original owners of the very popular Less Is More Challenge.  She is also now a team mate of mine on the Happy Little Stampers CAS Challenge. :)  I have long admired her AMAZING creations.  Chrissie has a special spot in her heart for butterflies, and I couldn't resist CASE'ing this gorgeous card.  Thank you Chrissie ... you are such an inspiration to me! :)  I know that Chrissie is away and celebrating her special birthday with her family.  Have a wonderful holiday and the best birthday EVER, Chrissie!  xx

The background was made last time I got together with my friend Susan (Cardmaker's Garret).  She shared a technique she had learned from her friend Christine, on how to use Inka Gold wax paste to make beautiful backgrounds.  You just spread a bit of the paste on your non-stick mat (I used Cobalt Blue, Jade Green, and Platinum).  Mist with lots of water and then drop your card stock on top and press down.  I pulled three pieces with just what I had on my mat.  The first one was the darkest and I used it for the solid butterfly, the second one was lighter and that's what I used for the main panel.  I have an even lighter one to use for another time. :)  Inka Gold pastes are metallic and have a shimmer and shine that you can't see in the photo, but are so pretty in real life.  I used silver embossing on some dots on the main panel and for the sentiment.

It's also my friend, Jules (Crafting with Jules) birthday!!!  Happy Birthday to you Jules!  Hope you have a wonderful day filled with joy and laughter!

I CASED this beauty from Jules blog.  It really is a shameful copy, actually.  The only thing I changed was the sentiment ... and the background is brushos on coated card stock instead of Jules beautifully sponged background. :)  I have long admired this card, and I thought it was a great opportunity to honour Jules today. :)

I have mailed off birthday cards to both Chrissie and Jules, but as always, I seem to get these things into the mail late.  Hopefully they will arrive shortly. :)

With Sympathy and HLS Announcement

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing a sympathy card I made a little while ago for very good friend who's mother had recently passed away.  I CASED this card I made a while ago from my friend, Mary's birthday.  I used the same sprays and ghosting technique to make the background.  Then I added the two-layer die-cut butterfly, flourish, and heat embossed the sentiment in white.

I'm also sharing some exciting news.  Yesterday, Kylie (Kylie is Addicted to Stamps), owner of Happy Little Stampers Forum, HLS Challenge Blog, Addicted to CAS Challenge blog, and Addicted to Stamps & More Challenge blog (whew!!) :) ... launched her first release of Happy Little Stampers stamps.  It is very exciting, and I hope you'll check out the shop HERE and take a look at her first four sets of stamps that are available NOW! :)

For those of you outside of Australia ... Kylie is shipping internationally - YAY!  She has already shipped mine and I can't wait to get them and start playing!

Happy Hello and Special Visitors

Hi everyone.  Had fun playing in my studio yesterday.  This card started with a background I made a while ago (click HERE to see a card made earlier and instructions on how I made the background).

This time, my experiment was to see if my new Zig watercolour pens would colour over the frost sprayed background.  They did! :)  I used my Misti for stamping on this card.  I used the "bumpy" side of my watercolour paper for this background, so really needed some help to get clean stampings of my flower stem and sentiment. The Misti came to my rescue ... I was able to stamp each of them multiple times until I achieved the look I wanted. :)  Then I quickly coloured in the flowers and leaves with my Zig pens.

I had so much fun just playing. :)

Also, I wanted to share that hubby and I had two very special visitors come by a couple of days ago.  Darnell (djkardkreations) and her Mister dropped by on their way back home after vacationing on Vancouver Island.  Dolly (that's what I call her), is a lovely, kind, and generous person --- exactly what I expected after getting to know her on-line.  And her Mister is a sweetheart.

It was so exciting to meet her after being "friends" on-line for a long time.  I have always admired Darnell's creativity ... and I always enjoy her witty posts.  You make me laugh, Dolly ... and my days are always brighter when I stop by your blog.

We had a great visit, talked about all kinds of things ... family, work, crafting.  The time flew by all too soon.

Dolly made sure that we took a picture of the two of us before leaving.  I am not good in photographs, but Dolly looks great! :)  I didn't think until after they were gone that I should have taken a picture of Dolly and Mister.  Hopefully we can do that next time. :)

Hi everyone.  Another two weeks has rolled around so we have the start of the next Addicted to CAS Challenge.  This time the challenge is being run by the multi-talented Deepti (Dee's Art Utopia).

I used my chevron stencil (cut with my Silhouette Cameo), and sprayed lightly with lime green watercolour spray onto card stock.  I quickly removed the stencil, otherwise the spray will seep underneath and blur the image, so the quicker it's removed, the more crisp the image.  Then I simply stamped the flower heads and sentiment in black.  Quick, easy and CAS card that only took a few minutes to make. :)

Happy Birthday Bonnie

Hi everyone.  Today is my good friend Bonnie's birthday (Stamping with Klass)! Happy Birthday dear friend!  I hope you are having the BEST day!! :)

I made the watercoloured background with just a few sprinkles of Brushos sprayed with water on mixed media paper.  I used some beautiful turquoise foil that I glued onto card stock (to give it some strength) and die-cut the leafy sprig.  I tucked the bottom of the stems in behind my frame and brought the leaves forward so they would sit outside the frame.  A simple stamped sentiment in soft gray doesn't take away from the main panel.

Today I'm playing along with the Mixed Media Card Challenge where the July challenge is Blue.

This also works for the Happy Little Stampers July Sketch challenge. :)

July Challenge Reminders

Hi everyone.  Just a reminder that the three challenges at Happy Little Stampers are open until the end of July.  I've made a card for each one. :)


First up for the CAS Challenge (and also for the HLS Sketch as well). :)

I created the background using the Stencil Monoprint technique with yellow and pink sprays on mixed media paper.   I inked my stamp with markers, spritzed with water and stamped over top (watercolour spritz technique) .  Then I used a waterbrush to move the colours around a little to create this very loose, watercoloured image.  So soft and delicate.  I thought it looked like a watercolour painting, so I framed it. :)

Next the Sketch Challenge (and also for the HLS CAS - Stamping) ...

This large bouquet of flowers is stamped onto watercolour paper and watercoloured using distress inks and a water brush.  I added glossy accents to the "glass" bowl.

And last for the Christmas Challenge (and also for the HLS CAS - Stamping) ...

I stamped with waterproof ink onto watercolour paper and then used distress inks to watercolour.  I splattered the background with some diluted white acrylic paint.  So fun and easy to do. :)


All three challenges is open for another couple of weeks, so there's lots of time to play along.  Come join in the fun!!

Penguin Christmas

Hi everyone.  I'm so relieved ... it has finally cooled down a bit here.  We've been going through a heat wave for the past couple of weeks (yes, weeks!).  I have not been feeling well and really think that the heat made things worse, so I'm hoping now that it's cooler, I'll be feeling a lot better.  My mojo returned yesterday after a couple of days of hiatus, so I took the opportunity to make a card. :)  It was inspired by several challenges. :)

First up, Merry Monday (#166) wants penguins on our Christmas card ... then AAA Cards (#43) has an inspiration photo of a starry night. :)  Plus, CAS on Sunday (#62) wants us to use Embossing . :)  And last, but not least, ATS&M #152 - Make Your Mark --- perfect! :)  They all came together into this one card.  So fun! :)

   

I started by placing a star stencil over my card front and pouncing with Versamark Ink, and then embossed in silver.  Next I printed off the digital image, cut out the bottom portion with a wavy line about 1/2 " above the sentiment to make my snow, and added some texture along the top edge.  I coloured the penguins with Copics, added some white dots with my gel pen, more of the texture snow for the hat cuffs and pompoms, and glossy accents on the noses for a little shine.  I fussy cut them out and popped them up over my starry background. :)  I really had fun making this and love the red and blue colours.

New Zig Clear Color Real Brush Pens

Hi everyone.  Playing with my new Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens that I got from hubby for my birthday. :)  They are so easy to use and blend beautifully.  And I love the brightness of the colours.

I stamped this image in waterproof black ink onto Mixed Media Paper and then watercoloured using three shades of blue and two shades of green.  I had this image done in about 15 minutes, which is really fast for me. :)  Love this new stamp set from Stampin' Up! ... and know I'll get a lot of use from the four stamps, especially this sentiment stamp.

Simple, one layer card, which is pretty rare for me. :)

This was inspired by the Happy Little Stampers Sketch challenge that went live just a week ago ...

HLS July Christmas Challenge

Hi everyone.  Today is the start of our brand new Christmas Challenge at Happy Little Stampers.  Not only are we launching a new challenge, but we have a new design team to start things off.  Check out the challenge HERE to see the wonderful cards by the rest of the Design Team (Bozena, Carol D, Carol S, Gail, Ingrid, Kylie, LesLee, Mary, Susan).  And then come and join in the fun! :)

The rules are simple.  Make a Christmas card that uses the key word (this month is Tree) and upload to the challenge blog.  Any style of card is welcome!

I started with some die-cuts I had cut over a year ago when my friend Susan (Cardmaker's Garret) came for a crafty play day.  I love this set of tree dies that she has.  At that time I was on a kick to use up some of the many packages of Christmas papers that I had bought.  I cut the trees from the ugliest patterned paper you can imagine ... then they sat, and sat, and sat.  I decided I need to do something with them.  So I turned them over to the plain white backing, sprayed with two shades of green watercolour sprays, let them dry and then added some snow texture.  LOVE how they turned out.  And the ugly paper is on the backside. :)  No one will ever know. :)

I used Martha Stewart Sparkle Texture Effect for my snow.  I wanted to have a soft, dreamy looking snowy sky for the background, so I sponged two shades of distress ink (Tumbled Glass and Peacock Feathers) on to vellum, leaving a little white space at the bottom.  Then I splattered with diluted white acrylic paint.  I finished the card by adding a frame with the vellum taped to the inside, stamped a simple sentiment and attached the tree on top; and then popped everything up on my card base. Easy and so fun!! :)

O Canada

Hi everyone.  Time for a new challenge at Addicted to CAS.  This challenge is being run by the very talented Jaydee (Stampin! with Jaydee).  And she chose this code word -

We have recently celebrated Canada's 148th birthday (July 1) ... and the U.S. is celebrating it's birthday today (along with a few other countries).  No matter what time of year, it's always wonderful to show pride in your country.

I started by spraying red and brown watercolour sprays randomly on the background.  Once dry, I sponged randomly over top with some Fired Brick distress inks to add depth of colour.  Then I inked up a large maple leaf stamp with dark red (Aged Mahogany), spritzed with lots of water and stamped.  I did this twice to create a background.  I then inked up one of my new stamp purchase .. a maple leaf spray with more aged mahogany, spritzed with just a little water this time, and stamped. Using less water means the ink is more intense in colour.  I added a small sentiment banner at the bottom, stamped with the same colour of ink.

Hi everyone.  It's the start of the  July CAS Challenge at Happy Little Stampers, and it's the start of our new Design Team.  Yay!!  Kylie and I are thrilled to have eight talented designers joining us.  Welcome to Anita, Bonnie, Chrissie, Hazel, Linda, Sue, Toni and Valentyna. :)

Today is my friend, Dolly's (aka Darnell) birthday .  Hopefully she received this card in time and this is not the first time she's seeing it! :)

Happy Birthday Dolly!

This card is all about the wonderful technique of generation stamping (or second generation). Basically you stamp an image and then stamp again (and possibly again) without reinking your stamp.  Multi-generation stamping can create the illusion of depth or movement.

I inked my tree trunk and then used a paper towel to randomly removed some of the ink from the top branches, stamped off once onto scrap paper, and then stamped onto my card front.  This gave me a general outline for the tree without having dark branches that would show through the leaves.

Then I stamped the leaves three times before re-inking and stamping again.  It really creates the look of leaves in the background and foreground, giving the tree visual dimension.  So cool! :)
