(Coloured with Distress Markers)
Hi everyone. I got this beautiful poinsettia stamp just before Christmas. I had to have it after seeing these beautiful cards done by my friend Toni (Frankie Helps Craft).
I wanted to experiment with different markers on Mixed Media paper. Mixed Media takes water, but you use less than painting on watercolour paper. And it absorbs the colour slower, so you have more time to move it around.
All three have the image heat embossed in silver, and I only used a waterbrush with my markers to colour the images. So relaxing and fun to do.
I'm happy with how they all turned out and I would recommend using all three different markers (distress, zig, stampin'write) with Mixed media paper. They each have a little different look. The photo above shows the image using distress markers.
The second card (below) uses Zig Clean Color Brush markers. They work wonderfully with mixed media paper and the colours are vibrant. The only negative is the red colour that comes in the set of 48 markers. The red turns pink when is diluted with water... it has nothing to do with the mixed media paper, just the markers themselves. I wish their red marker was red. :) Of course, I could have mixed in some brown to try to get a red, but I just wanted to simplify my colouring this time. And I can always buy a different shade of red, but wanted to use just from my set of 48 I purchased.

The last card is done with stampin' write markers. They also worked really well on the mixed media paper.

If you have a chance, try out some Mixed Media paper. It's fun to work with and is great for watercolouring and watercolouring techniques (remember to use less water). Just something different, and it's price point is in-between regular card stock and watercolour paper.
This is my first time inking up this beautiful stamp, so I'm entering Darnell's NBUS Challenge #6. I have LOTS more NBUS items in my studio, so hope to make a few more cards before the end of the challenge on Mar. 10th. Thanks for this wonderful challenge Dolly (aka Darnell) ... it really helps me to show some love to my neglected purchases. :)
Thanks for dropping by for a visit!

Thanks for the comparison. I did NOT know that you had a little more working time in the mixed media paper! That is good to know and now I want to try it. I am nearly out of watercolor paper so I even have a good excuse to go out and get some!
ReplyDeleteStunningly gorgeous, Loll; your poinsettias are breath-taken-away knockouts! The paper you've used appears to be 'fairly' white; is it more white than the Canson watercolour paper? If so, I may be tempted to try these colouring techniques after all...

OMG, all 3 poinsettias Stunning Loll. I do not have a fab.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Nancy
Each of these is GORGEOUS, my friend! I love to see the difference in how the markers change the look! Guess I'll be adding something else to my list!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference, depending on which markers you used. But they are all very beautiful and unique. They all work! Thanks for the info on the mixed media which I have not tried yet.

Stunning cards. The difference between the 'reds' is crazy :)
ReplyDeleteThree beautiful cards, Loll! :)
ReplyDeleteStunning coloring! I love the silver embossing~
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful, Loll, but the one done with Distress Ink is my absolute favorite! The silver embossing really adds to the beauty and I'm delightedly surprised that the green wash is so effective in coloring the pine needles.
ReplyDeleteWow...love your coloring on these, Loll...each a beauty in its own way! No wonder you had to have that stamp...its gorgeous! Toni's another enabler :)
ReplyDeletegorgeous cards Loll - i like the distress colors in the the first one the best!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Loll, that the red in the Zigs set of 48 is very pink. I even tried buying two other different red Zigs and neither of those is a good dark or true red. For this reason, I like your Distress marker card the best. What a beautiful stamp and, in every case, it is beautifully coloured.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards, Loll. The different looks you get from different markers is amazing. I especially love the look of your distress marker card. Will have to try using mixed media paper.
ReplyDeleteWOW Loll what a beautiful card your colouring is just perfect

Beautiful cards Loll, dont know what it was but the first card kept drawing me back. Maybe its the greenery I like more in it, I dont know but dont the colours go on so creamy on this multimedia paper.
ReplyDeleteWOW! These are a real knockout Loll! LOVE all three1 That pink one is soft and pretty! I 'accidentally' bought some MM paper thinking it was watercolour paper, so will experiment with it! Thanks for the tip Loll! Have a very lovely day! Hazel xx

Stunning! Love all three of them and interesting about the 'red' zig pen goes pinky with water. Haven't used mixed media card so will give it a go. Thanks for the step by step and the inspiration. Such gorgeous and beautiful cards x
ReplyDeleteOh, I was gasping at each different shade of this gorgeous poinsettia stamp. It was quite interesting to see the different effects achieved by the various markers (and I'll confess #1 has to be my fav, but I loved each one). Marvelous coloring and shading, and I use the Canson Mixed Media for lots of different treatments. It's great when I find it on sale too. Great job, and good for you at using some NBUS items. TFS & Hugs
ReplyDeleteI love all 3 cards, Loll! Thanks for the info, as I've wondered about MM paper & it's good to know I could use my Zigs with it.
ReplyDeleteS T U N N I N G! No other word fits. How delicate!
ReplyDeletePerfect! Can't say I've ever seen 3 perfect poinsettias all in one place!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, Loll !!! Full of admiration! I love your watercolors, you create real miracles /
ReplyDeletehugs,
BozenA
WOW! WOW! and WOW!! All three of these are just stunning ... what a gorgeous stamp. I can understand why you had to have it. All three of them are beautifully coloured xx
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful they all are! I love the silver embossing. I would frame them!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful poinsettia stamp Loll. Just love the colouring on all 3 but what a shame the red pen turns pink! Think I might email the manufacturer to query this.

This is a real wow stamp Loll and you have coloured so beautifully on all the cards. I think it is quite difficult to find a red aqua marker that doesn't dilute to pink unfortunately. x
ReplyDeleteWow, these are all beautiful. Your coloring is beautiful. I see why you had to have that beautiful poinsettia stamp.
ReplyDeleteWow, these cards are just so gorgeous Loll! I love how each one has a different look by the medium you used. I didn't know what the difference was between watercolor paper and Mixed Media paper, thanks for telling us! Will have to try it out sometime! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteCame back to say...Absolutely my pleasure to join in your challenge..I do so enjoy CAS with mixed media and was so excited when you started up your challenge...just my type of crafting with techniques thrown in. Thanks for stopping by my blog, very much appreciated x
ReplyDeleteLoll! These are stunning! I love them all! Thx for sharing the 3 mediums. Glad you're finding time to play!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful stamp and gorgeous cards, Loll. I almost feel I could have written your post. I bought Mixed Media paper to use with my Zigs although I think it is a lighter weight than yours. I'll be looking for some 400 series. I agree about the red brush. If you find a good individual one, let me know. I find I'd rather use Distress Inks for a lot of my watercoloring as it's friendly to most papers. I do like Bristol board for Zigs but it's not a pure white. I did a card yesterday with Zigs on the white Ranger watercolor paper and it just wouldn't move so I ended up just coloring it. It's both fun and frustrating to experiment isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThese look so amazing with the silver. hmmm I think I may have some of that MM paper somewhere will have to see how that goes. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, Loll ... how beautiful ... the soft watercolouring with the shimmery silver is gorgeous! Great comparisons ... and thanks for the tips on MM paper ... added to my 'to try' list! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Gosh, Loll! Each one of these is over-the-top gorgeous!! Now I have a new stamp on my wish list! Thanks for always explaining how you make your beauties!!
ReplyDeleteAfter you showed me Mixed Media paper during our short crafty time together, I am a convert! I think ALL of these poinsettia cards are frameable works of art, Lolly! They are drop-dead gorgeous! I really enjoyed seeing the differences in each and appreciate the time it took for you to share! (Thanks again for playing in my challenge way back when, ha! I'm still catching up!) Enjoy your week! Hugs, Dolly
