Hi everyone. Yesterday I got together with three stamping friends (Susan, Christine and Shirl). We played with a few different products and techniques. It was a lot of fun!! Thanks for coming over girls!! :)
We started with gilding flakes. We used them three different ways (die-cutting, over stencils, and with stamping). Then we moved on to playing with our gelli plates, then color bursts, and finally gelatos. I'll be sharing some cards later this week with what I made.
Today's card uses gilding flake glue sponged onto a NBUS stamp, stamped onto mixed media paper, left to dry for a few minutes until tacky, and then topped with gilding flakes. I used a scrubby pad to burnish the flakes and remove the excess.
Next I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brushes to watercolour. The gilding flakes act as a resist so I didn't have to worry about getting ink on them. I started by adding a layer of bright yellow, then a layer of orange for the large butterflies, pink for the small ones.
For the last layer, I added just a few thin strokes of pink on each section of the large butterflies and used a very fine, damp paint brush to move those into longer and thinner strokes. I used the same gilding flakes to make my sentiment banner. Happy with how it turned out. :)

ReplyDeleteHi Connie. I haven't made a video on this technique, but am thinking there may be one in the future. I have just started experimenting recently, so want to learn more before doing a video. :) There is a wonderful video by Sue Wilson showing how she uses the gilding flake glue with stamps. ReplyDeleteBreath-taken-away, jaw-dropped in awe, rendered speechless! Stunning. Incredibly, totally and absolutely stunning! My question (because I can't figure the Zigs out AT ALL!) is about how you coloured the butterflies. You used yellow as your first layer: did you add water? Then orange as your second: water added again? No matter how I've tried, my Zig colouring is an epic mess! I can't seem to keep the vibrancy while simultaneously creating a 'delicate', no edges/lines showing 'flow'. Perhaps I'm using too much water...or maybe not enough. Or maybe too much Zig ink...or not enough. Argh! Any advice: gratefully accepted! Even a video link would be fabulous. Call me helpless!
