Hi everyone. Today I'm sharing another stenciling with brushos card along with a short video tutorial.
My card above uses the same technique in the video below and has stamping, die-cuts, and stenciling with brushos so it is another example of a CAS Mix Up card that fits the CAS Mix Up June Challenge - Die-cuts.
I shared the card below on my blog a few weeks back, and had several requests asking for a video on how I did this technique. Thanks so much for all the feedback.
The video on Stenciling with Brushos is below, or you can watch it on YouTube by clicking HERE. It's very short (2:30) and I show lots of examples of cards I made using this background technique.
I hope you'll take a few minutes to watch the video and I'd appreciate a "thumbs up" if you find it helpful. :) Thank you!
As I show in my video, I found it easiest to have something underneath my card front so that I could pull off my stencil quickly. I used an acrylic block, but you can use whatever you have on hand. The trick to this technique is removing the stencil as soon as possible so the water and crystals don't have time to flow under the stencil. For crisp, clean images, being fast is best. :) It's also best to use a stencil that has both open spaces and solid spaces, and try to get the watercolour crystals in as many of the open spaces as possible.
I used mixed media paper (Strathmore 400 series) for both my cards above. Watercolour paper also works well for this technique.
I hope you enjoy the video. And thanks for dropping by for a visit!
Birthday Card:
Stamps: The big, the bold, the happy (Winnie & Walter)
Paper: Mixed Media (Strathmore 400 Series); White base (Neenah)
Ink: Brushos: Lemon, Orange, Terracotta
Accessories & Tools: Water mister, Numbers stencil (cut with my Silhouette Cameo), Stitched Border die (Pretty Pink Posh)
Challenges:

Great tutorial Loll. I've tried stencils and Brusho in the past but used spray adhesive on the stencil, this gives a much cleaner edge. A bit like removing a plaster I think, quick and sharp gives the best result! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the summery colours of your card, Loll. Thanks for the video tutorial. It was very helpful.
ReplyDeleteOh Loll this is gorgeous and now I guess that Brushos are definitely on my wish list--love the variation in colours!!
ReplyDeleteWow...Gorgeous, gorgeous card and fabulous video tutorial Loll. I loved your tips like the acrylic block underneath and your laying a paper towel over your wet piece to soften the colors. TFS my very talented friend! Hugs, nancy

You make this look so easy, Loll! Thanks for doing the video. I love this birthday card! It would be great for a tween or teen!
ReplyDeleteawesome video, technique and such beautiful cards. The acrylic block was just genius :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time and trouble to make this video. It's perfectly fabulous. Also when I see the stenciled numbers here on the blog, I realized it _was_ numbers! In the video, my eyes were picking up the colored bits, and I didn't realize it was actually numbers!! Even then, thought it was an awesome look. You rock!!! Hugs (yes, Bonnie is right, you made it look easy. I'd have had blobs everywhere as I lifted that stencil...LOL).
ReplyDeletethank Loll - i tried doing this yesterday with my brushos and had a big fat mess 'cause i left the stencil on too long - so will have another go at this sonight!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this great tutorial Loll and what lovely cards
ReplyDeleteAnne
Oh Loll, you are the biggest sweetheart for making a video for us to watch! I was going to give this technique a try next. I just love it so much! Nice to see the video first though, although I was going to give it a go just by your directions. But now I don't have to. lol Your card is fabulous! I love the color of the brusho's you used on it. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteGreat video tutorial. You make it look so easy.
ReplyDeleteIs this also called stencil monoprint, or is stencil monoprint placing watercolor paper over the wet stencil that was removed?
Hi Trina. This is not Stencil Monoprint. If I took the wet stencil I removed from my card front and placed the wet side down onto another card front, then I could make a monoprint. It's important to soak up the extra liquid with a cloth or paper towel. With a monoprint, the open areas of the stencil should remain clear so that the card stock shows through. If you want a good video on stencil monoprint, check out the link to one by Lee-Anne Cross that I have in my Tutorials Tab at the top of my blog. Loll :)
DeleteThanks, Loll. I'll go check out that tutorial.

ReplyDeleteFantastic video Loll and beautiful, beautiful cards! One question for you: what is the difference between mixed media paper and water color paper? Is one heavier than the other? Thanks! :0)
ReplyDeleteLove your video on this technique - I don't have brushos, but do have bisters - the colours are not as brilliant as brusho though, so not nearly so much fun! Thanks for all you teach us Loll.
