Another scheduled post ... I'm still off on a break but hope to be back soon! :)
Marbling with shaving foam ... I wonder who thought that up??!! It works great, but is super messy, so be prepared ... you have been warned. :)
My friend Nancy mentioned that she did her shaving foam marbling next to her kitchen sink ... great idea! I used a cookie sheet for containing the foam, and a kitchen spatula to remove the foam from my card front. Then just washed everything down the sink. Saved using tons of paper towel.
I used way more cream than I needed, so use less than you think. And I had several cut card fronts ready to press into the cream and re-inker mixture, and still needed to get out more. You can just keep spreading the cream and adding more drops of re-inkers. Your colours get darker as you go along, but I ended up with several pieces that I can use for backgrounds or for die-cutting. Definitely worth a try!! The video I followed is HERE.
One other tip I learned ... once you pull the card front off of the shaving foam, let it sit for a couple of minutes before removing the foam. This will prevent the ink from smudging and give you more of a marbled look.
I made this for CAS Mix Up's September Challenge - Marbling.
This has been so much fun learning different ways to get a marbled look. :)

CAS Mix Up September Challenge - Marbling
Your color combo is quite striking. The die cut fern leaves give nice dimension.
ReplyDeleteThis is so gorgeous :) and that sounds so smart to do it next to a sink too :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness this is such a gorgeous card, those colors amazing! Sorry Loll I am unable to visit your blog as frequently as I used to :( Siddharth is keeping me way too busy than I anticipated. Luckily I got some time to stop by today :) I am glad I did :) you are sub an inspiration.

Amazing colour combination and love how the swirl 'looks like' the die cut leaf or did you die cut the leaf after the marbling was done?...LOL xxxx Thanks for the tip and thank you for another fabulous card and technique x
ReplyDeleteWow Loll just love the colours you have used for your marbel front. The browns are just perfect. Can I make myself do it, use a brown.....mmmm... Probably not. Best go buy some shaving cream first.
ReplyDeleteElysha has a tactil adhorance to shaving cream. Will make her vomit at just the feel of it ...thought I would share that piece of trivia with you lol. Also bubbles and cobwebs, hows that for strange.
What a beautiful marbled piece, Loll! I love how you've shaped the fern and the placement near the same color in the marbling! A fantastic card that's well worth the mess!
ReplyDeleteWait until you see my card, Loll. I tried the foam method thanks to Bonnie and her idea to use food coloring. Even better, or worse, you should see my hands. ;) I put the foam in a pie plate and wiped it off with an old insurance card and it worked slick as a whistle. I ended up with 8 and still had way too much foam left. I tried another color with less foam and got 5 from it. A couple hit the recycle bin but I will be making use of the others at some time. I'm so glad you chose this technique for the challenge this month. Oh, and I love how you added the fern to your beautifully marbled background.
ReplyDeleteYour eye for color is incredible, Loll! this is one of the first techniques I ever learned and long forgot about it. It's a great one too and so fun. I just LOVe the colors you used and the definition of your marbling, so perfect for die cut. So glad that even if you are on leave, we can still see your beautiful work. Prayers for a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteso pretty Loll - hope you are feeling better and better everyday also!

Varying success and learning about colour combinations, card-stock etc and now have loads in the pile to use at a later day...ye ha!!! Thinking of you Loll and wishing you a speedy recovery too x Hugs x
ReplyDeleteThis is such cool technique that I've always wanted to try -somehow all the shaving stuff I seem to find is gel, not foam! :) Your marbles looks very elegant, great color choices, beautiful card!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous as all your cards, Loll! Love the look of that technique combined with the pretty die cut!
ReplyDeleteHope your recovery goes smoothly!
Thinking of you,
Susanne

Wow, Loll ... cool, funky and so striking ... the leaf sprig is gorgeous with that amazing marbling! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous Loll and the marbling is beautiful. I am determined to give this a try but don't have reinkers so hope that it may work with acrylic paints which I do have. I love the leaves you have used over the top which pick up the brown in the background so effectively. x
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip about doing this near the sink...I made the biggest mess in my craft room :) I love the colors you chose for this card, Loll! I think it's perfect for a guy, especially since the leaf sprig isn't too girly!
