CAS Mix Up November Challenge

Hi everyone.  Today is the start of the CAS Mix Up November Challenge.  I'm thrilled to have two new teammates joining CAS Mix Up ... welcome to Julia (Create with Me), and Joanna (Jo-Jo's Spot).  So excited to be working with these very talented ladies!!

On to the challenge ... this month it's all about Masking!

I was inspired by my friend Karen (Snippets), who often uses masking to create a one layer card.

I masked off a rectangle using low-tack tape (also stuck the tape to my clothing a couple of times to remove even more of the stickiness before adding to my card panel).  Then I sponged a mix of vibrant distress inks (wilted violet, picked raspberry, mustard seed), to create a sunset.  I stamped a silhouette image in black (a couple of times to make sure it was very dark black --- thanks to my MISTI it is always lined up perfectly!).  And did the same with the sentiment ... twice stamped in black.

I decided afterwards that I wanted to add some splattering.  It's risky once the image was stamped (in Memento Black that is not permanent).  I just placed paper towels over the borders of my card to protect them ... and the sentiment too, and then flicked with water.  I left it for a few seconds and then picked up the excess water with a paper towel.  Looked OK, but didn't make that much of a difference. Needed more.  So covered up the borders again with paper towel, and this time splattered with diluted black watercolour paint.  Better, but still not enough. Covered the borders again, splattered with wink of stella and called it a day.  I'm happy now. :)

My CAS Mix Up card has stamping, masking, sponging and splattering (3 different splatterings). :)

Here's a close up so you can see the sparkle from the wink of stella better ...

There are lots of ways to mask, and I hope you'll give one (or more) of them a try and then join our challenge.

This month, we are excited to have Linda S. (Lin's Craft Corner) as our Guest Designer.  Linda created this GORGEOUS CARD which was chosen by the Design Team as our "Pick of the Month" for September's Marbling challenge.  Welcome to the team Linda!

I hope you'll stop by the CAS Mix Up Challenge blog to see the rest of the Design Team's beautiful masked cards.  I know you'll be inspired!
