Hi everyone. Today's card is for Darnell's NBUS #8 Challenge. She is celebrating her 5 Year Blog Birthaversary, along with running 3 weekly back-to-back NBUS challenges.
The first challenge runs from Jan. 16-22 and is Coloured Pencils on Kraft. She is open to other types of entries too. You can read her rules HERE.
I have never coloured with pencils on kraft before, but have always wanted to try it out. I managed to get a bit of shading on the leaves and stems, but not so much on the flowers. I'm sure there's a trick and I just don't know it. :)
I used a NBUS stamp that I've had for YEARS. I got it on sale at Michael's and it has sat collecting dust. I'm happy to finally use it. Thanks again Dolly ... I probably would never have used this stamp if it wasn't for your challenge!
Fun, whimsical stamp so thought I'd pair it with a Paper Smooches sentiment. First time using a staple on a card as well. :)
Thanks for stopping by and make sure to click this link to check out Darnell's NBUS #8 Challenge!

I'm anxious to try this technique too! I LOVE how your flowers turned out, Loll! I love that playful sentiment too!

ReplyDeleteOh this is such a cheerful card Loll. I love the sweet flowers. Beautifully colored on the kraft!
ReplyDeleteGreat card, Loll! That flowery stamp is so sweet! Your coloring on kraft looks pretty good to me, and those flowers are so bright and cheerful! And she really is a "Dolly," isn't she?!! Have a good evening. Bev
ReplyDeleteYour coloring is so lovely Loll...love the subtlety and the subdues hues. I have never tried coloring on Kraft either...you have inspired me to give it a shot
ReplyDeleteCheers

So fun and whimsical my friend. I am so excited about Darnell's challenges. So glad you got to play with your NBUS stamps and got to use your pencils and kraft paper. I am going to try using gamsol and rolled paper to blend the colors Happy stamping Loll. Hugs....
ReplyDeleteJust found an awesome You-Tube tutorial using gamsol (odorless mineral spirits) and paper stumps. Enjoy..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_Thoyxw0WM
DeleteLoll this is stunning - love the stamp and am glad you have dusted it off :-). Maybe a wee bit of black under (or even gently over) the main colour for shading??
ReplyDeleteBlessings

I've always wanted to try colouring on kraft and for sure your card and Darnell's challenge has inspired me to actually get to do it now, Loll!!!! Love your sweet little flowers!!!! Such a pretty card!!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!!!

Wonderful card, Loll! Glad to know you're a newbie like some of us on this technique!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Loll, love the shading, you picked up this technique easily x
ReplyDeleteLove your card Loll, full of whimsy, the flowers and sentiment do go so well together : )
ReplyDeleteLove this ...... your funky flowers look so bright and cheery xx
ReplyDeleteLove this looks so cool, the flowers are wonderful as is your colouring. I thought it was paint thats how smooth it looks
ReplyDeleteOh my! The sentiment is the perfect match for those flowers. Nothing wrong with your colouring which is fab. Love how bright and cheery your card looks. Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteLoll, this looks fabulous! I see some nice shading on those flowers. I did some coloring on kraft around Christmas following a you tube video by Nichol Spohr and she laid a base of white down first and added the color(s) she wanted to use. She said it helped her blend the other colors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiAeLnbzn4A I think that is the link, if you are interested. But really, I think your flowers look wonderful! Hugs! :)
ReplyDeleteLoads of firsts on your card and what a fabulous result. Different style and loving it! x
ReplyDeleteCute, cute card Loll and I love the sentiment and staple too! I just tried this technique last night for the first time and I wasn't able to get much shading either...but it was a fun technique to play with! :0)
ReplyDeleteWonderful Loll! The colouring on kraft is such fun and the sentiment is perfect!
ReplyDeleteHugs

Loll, this is so pretty. I see the shading in your flowers. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteLoll, I love those stamps and looks great on kraft!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful card and I have long forgotten that pencils work on colored cardstock! What a cool effect! Thanks for the reminder too!
ReplyDeleteI love your sweet stylised flowers Loll and the pencil work looks great on the kraft with really good coverage which isn't always easy. The modern font sentiment goes perfectly too and love the staple. x
ReplyDeleteI love the whimsical flowers, Loll. They are perfect for this challenge as they really don't need any shading.
ReplyDeleteThese flowers look really happy that they were finally used to take center stage on a fabulous card! ;) They go great with the sentiment and the staple adds a little something extra! Your coloring is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteOh Loll! Your card is great! I love beautiful flowers and modern design of the card. But I see it also influences folk. So beautifully you have connected the two styles!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that all of us Darnell joined in the fun. The new look of Darnell is beautiful :-) You're really amazing performer!

Like the otherz, I have not tried this type of coloring, but I am going to try it today. Thank you for the idea.
ReplyDeleteI do like these flower stamps. So pretty coloring, Loll. I like the simplicity!
ReplyDeleteYour funky flower stamp is ideal for colouring with pencils, it has a retro look to it. Love the finished project.
ReplyDeleteHow fun that I was able to come up with a technique that you hadn't tried before, Lolly! Of course, you did it splendidly and once again showed your expert eye for design! The doodled and whimsical stamp (how could you have ignored it until now?!) is a perfect choice for colored pencils and the PS sediment and staple fit it like a glove!! I love it! Thank you so much for playing in my NBUS Challenge #8 and for your friendship and amazing support and encouragement! And, of course, thank you again for all your help with my sensational new blog design!! Hugs, Dolly xxoo
ReplyDeleteOh this is a lovely card! That stamp is gorgeous, I cannot believe it is NBUS (well I can as I know what we are all like with our stuff), but it's really pretty, and I love your colouring. Actually for this stamp, I don't think having loads of shading is that important, the blooms can take more depth of colour. I think they look perfect the way they are. And that sentiment from PS is fab (one of my faves). Lisa
ReplyDeleteThis card is perfect! I love its whimsicality and bright colors. It will definitely perk up someone's day. Aren't these NBUS challenges fun?
ReplyDeleteThe sentiment style is perfect with the flowers, great choice! I think the flowers are very cute, hopefully you'll use them again!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful ! I love how your bright coloured flowers stand out on the kraft paper ! For a first try it is a total success ! Thanks for sharing and for inspiring !
ReplyDeleteIzzy Scrap
Sweet and so pretty, Loll ... those lovely blooms pop wonderfully against the kraft! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDelete1st timer using pencils on kraft, too, Lol. You managed to get your pencils to look soooo bright and bold, just beautiful! Love that you're a newbie with the staple! Adorable way to add your happy scrip on the sentiment!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card with those beautiful flowers.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, and I think you did superbly if this is your first effort on kraft. I like the brightness of the colors against the subtle shade of the kraft. I'm not adept with pencils, and I found it extremely hard to blend on the kraft. I'm wondering if there is a better quality of kraft c/s than what I have, like for instance, using Neenah with copics? Looks beautiful me! TFS & Hugs
