Lake Loon

Hi everyone.   We are in the middle of a snow storm.  It's been snowing steady the past two days and there's at least 8" accumulated.  I love looking out at the snow falling ... it's so peaceful and beautiful with everything covered in white.  I'm lucky that I don't have to be out in it.  Snow days means more time for me in the studio. :)

Today I made the card above.  Very simple card using a background coloured piece that I had in my stash.  This background was made from leftover ink, sopped up with a paper towel, and then transferred onto watercolour paper.  I love the way the quilted design of the paper towel adds so much interest to the colours. :)  I've used left over paper towels to make another background for a card HERE, if you want to take a look.

I simply die-cut the loon for my card front, popped it over the coloured background and stamped a simple sentiment.  The lake loon die is a NBUS item from my stash, so I'm heading over to join in the fun at Darnell's NBUS #10 challenge that closes tomorrow.  I didn't use the optional theme this time. :)

Stamps:  Thinking of You (Happy Little Stampers)
Paper:  White (Neenah 110 lb.); Watercolour (Arches 140 lb. hot press)
Ink:  Smoky Slate (SU!)
Accessories & Tools:  Lake Loon die (Gina Marie Designs), inky paper towels, water mister, brayer

Stay warm and safe in your studio my friend. We have had 3" of rain and lots of wind since yesterday and expecting much more tonight and tomorrow. This has been quite the Winter for all of us.

  17. I love the imprint of paper towel on the card. That is so inventive and a good way to reuse the inks. This is such a peaceful scene with those soft colors and sweet die. A wonderful card to make with 8" of snow on the ground!

  21. This is a beautiful card Loll! I love those backgrounds you get from using your paper towel that have sopped up ink in them. Amazing to me how the ink transfers back onto watercolor cardstock. We haven't gotten any "real" snow storms yet this year. Some dusting of snow and some ice messes. Still early enough to get a blizzard though. We had a blizzard in 93 in March! I too, love to watch the snow gently falling with no traffic going. It's so beautiful and serene. Enjoy your creative time! Hugs, Brenda

  23. Fun card Loll. I like the technique and the die. When we lived in the mountains, 5 years ago, I loved the first snow when everything was pristine and not touched by man.

  36. I'm sure sales of that die have sky-rocketed, Lolly! It is now on my list to add to my NBUS! What an excellent way to use snippets of Brusho work, whether direct to paper or by sopping! It is an excellent manly card!! Thank you very much for playing in my NBUS Challenge #10! Hugs, Dolly ~ enjoy that snow, if its still there! (Maybe now its ugly and brown. I used to hate when it got like that and all the pretty part was gone.)
