Hi everyone. A few days ago I painted a canvas with acrylic paints following this video I saw about palette knife painting. For my first try, I was happy with the results. It doesn't have the texture of the one shown in the video, but I do love the colours and how it turned out. Red and gold are the accent colours in my house, so I could hang it in just about any room.
Next I tried the same colours on a smaller canvas using a paint brush to paint on the same colours following this video. It turned out great, but is much flatter than the canvas above. I think it needs something more, but will leave it for now.
I still have to seal the canvases before they are completely finished, painting over top with some diluted soft gloss gel. It will seal the canvas to protect it and will also give it shine and deepen the colours. Just need to get to the store to buy the gel. :)
Both canvases were done using Liquitex Basics (medium body acrylics), in Cadium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Raw Sienna, White, and Gold.
Yesterday I had a play day with my friends Susan and Christine. We spent the afternoon painting more canvases using three different techniques. The paint was flying :) ... it was messy and a lot of fun! I will share my canvases from yesterday in the next couple of days after they've had time to dry thoroughly.
Thanks for stopping by!

both canvases are lovely Loll - i think it's the lack of texture on the second one that makes it not so vibrant - you're a mixed media person - you'll think of something wonderful to do with it after you've had a think!!!
Looks and sounds like you had a lot of fun getting messy and I bet you really enjoyed yourselves? Great technique and loving the colours. Yes the first one has a little more texture and it would be interesting to blog them again with the gel sealant on top to see any significant difference. Love how you are trying out something new...x Thanks for sharing and I will enjoy looking at the video links x
These look great on the easels, Loll! I love the texture of the first one! They look like lots of fun to do!
Thanks for the link, great result and the video looks like fun...a need to try.xx ♥[aNNie]
It was so much fun playing with the paints yesterday, I felt like a child again. Glad you had the garbage bag to catch the paint drips.
These two look beautiful, I can't decide which one I like best both will look wonderful on your walls :)
Wow...Loll your canvases are absolutely Stunning!!! I love them both equally as well. Looks like another awesome technique to try out. TFS your link to the tutorial also.
WOW!!! Hugs..
How fun Loll! I've slowly been collecting oils and all the pieces I need for a Palette Knife course I bought. There are a ton of supplies....taking a chunk out of my crafting budget...lol! I can't wait to get started...you make me want to dive right in! I love the look of your pieces. :)
I can see myself standing on the edge of the ocean bluff staring into your warm and vibrant sunset, Lolly! I love how you keep stretching yourself and trying new things ~ and doing them stunningly!! Hugs, Dolly
These are fab Loll. I like the textured one more. There is more splashes of gold on that one and the texture appeals more to me. My house is full of Munro Art! Not me but my Dad, Brother and Aunt are painters and I have the most gorgeous paintings from them on my walls xx
What an awesome colour combination and stunning canvases - I am looking forward to seeing the next three Loll.:-)
Blessings

Love those rich colours Loll, especially the texture of the first. The second is just shouting sunset over water, just a hint of silhouetted land would bring it alive I think. :)
Looks gorgeous. xxx
amazing canvases, like a sunset ...
Hi Loll
They are stunning! I live the first canvas with the reds and holds and it's closely followed by the blue study. I'm new to anything mixed media having been a card maker and I'm going to have a play now to see what kind of mess I can make of it 😉
Bejay xx
Oh my, these are beautiful, Loll! Those colors are so striking and you've blended the colors wonderfully. I look forward to the canvases from your play day. :)
WOW! Loll, your talents never cease to amaze! These are just fabulous, they remind me of a couple of stunning sunsets! These would look great on anyone's wall. Can't wait to see more! Have a great week my friend! Luv n’ Hugs. Hazel xx

This reminds me of a glorious sunset. How fun this is! I like yours better than the one in the video too. Those colors are magnificent, Loll!
WOW Loll. You are so much more adventurous than me. I love them both. They turned out so beautiful. I love the texture in the first and the second one looks more like a beautiful sunset. Good for you to try something new.
This puts me in mind of a glorious sunset, for some reason. And I think #1 has loads of texture. Oh what fun you ladies must have had. Now you have something so beautiful to display in your home. I love both pieces, and can certainly see the difference in the 'rough' and 'smooth', but I think I do like the more textured one best. Well done and now you have a new medium to enjoy. TFS the video link too. Hugs
Rich and beautiful, Loll. I love the simplicity of these, and the reds and golds are glorious. Don't think I'd have the courage to do this, and it would never, ever in a million years turn out as beautifully as these are. So glad you had painting time with friends. I'll bet that there was as much laughter spattered around as paint! Sounds like fun. Can't wait to see the next ones! Bev
Very pretty - LOVE the colors.
So glad I saw these IRL as the colours are even more striking. It sure was fun making our canvases on Sunday - thank you again!
You are always trying new things Loll! Pretty mix of colors on these lovely painted canvases! Julia xx
PS - I'm thinking you now need a bonafide ART label to your blog! :)
Oh Loll, I love them! The texture in the first one is awesome and I really like the blending in the second one. Also adore the colors and golden accents very much - so warm! What size are they?
I did a similar one a few years ago with red/orange and gold and seeing yours makes me want to do more!
Those rich colours are fabulous, Loll ... so striking, bold and warm! Waiting with anticipation to see the next ones from your fun play date! Hugs, Anita :)
WOW! What can I say ..... these are stunning. The colours look amazing, and so arty. Thanks for sharing the links too xx
Two really beautiful canvases, Loll! I love the texture on the first one, and the smoothness of the 2nd one...both are so striking, and your color palette is stunning!
Way to branch out, Loll. I've been painting with acrylics for some time now and have a couple done with a pallet knife which I love to do. I love the bold rich colors of your canvases.
