Dare To Get Dirty Event at SCS

Hi everyone.  I'm sharing two cards I made for my friend, Nancy's challenge over at Splitcoaststampers.  This is a yearly event where there is a full week of challenges (around 40 in all), hosted by current and former members of the Dirty Dozen to thank the club members for contributing money to keep this amazing stamping community site running.  You have to be a club member at SCS to play along.  If you are a member, click HERE to see Nancy's challenge.

I've been having so much fun playing with tissue paper, and the fun continues with these two cards.  :)

For the card above, I did the Metallic Tissue Paper technique but I didn't glue the tissue to card stock.  Instead, I scrunched, flattened, swiped with versamark, and heat embossed in gold to create this fun, airy and semi-translucent, torn background for my butterfly.  So happy with how this turned out.

Here's my second card ...

I love the ethereal look of the tissue paper leaves.  It gives a dreamy look to the card. I watercoloured my tissue with two shades of green, glued to acetate when dry, and die-cut my leafy sprigs.

The sprigs are adhered over top of a soft blue mesh stenciling done with my Clarity Brushes.  I used the same colour of ink as the stenciling to colour my sentiment banner, heat embossing in white.  It needed something else and when I looked at my sequins, I couldn't believe I had the exact same colour as the ink. :)  I added two along with a few clear sequins to give the card some sparkle.

CASEing Marcia

Hi everyone.  Today I'm CASEing this beautiful card made by my friend, Marcia (Marcia's Stampin' Pad).  Thank you for the inspiration, Marcia!!

I just loved her design, and I happened to have the heart die-cut that she used for the background and hadn't used it yet. :)  I used a watercoloured panel (done on mixed media paper) that I smooshed with re-inkers and spray starch and then pressed cling wrap over top.  It has a very subtle design.

I added a simple white die-cut leaf sprig, white embossed sentiment and three Nuvo Jewel Drops in Rosewater.

July Rudolph Days

Hi everyone.  I'm playing along with Rudolph Days run by the lovely Maureeen (Scrappimo!).  The challenge runs every month from the 25th to end of month and it's always Anything Goes Christmas.  It's great to make Christmas cards throughout the year.  :)

The card above is several techniques and has an artsy look.

I started by stenciling with Brushos, following the technique in my video.  This time I changed it up slightly by quickly sprinkling a little bit of kosher salt over my piece before I removed the stencil.  And I didn't blot with paper towel, so the colours dried very vibrant.  I let it air dry so that the salt could do it's thing. :)  It absorbs some of the pigment and creates these little bursts of colour.  It's very subtle on the card above, but if you look closely you can see the design left by the salt in the blue ink.

Here's a close-up.

To finish the card, I took a silver metallic pen doodled around the outline of the image.  Then I heat embossed a sentiment in silver to match.

Thinking of You and AliExpress

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing another tissue paper watercoloured card.  This time I crinkled up the Distress Ink watercoloured tissue and glued it onto my card stock.  It created some beautiful texture.  And I love the colours with the white die-cuts.

Speaking of die-cuts, today's card uses two new-to-me dies that I purchased from AliExpress.  I had to wait for a long time for my order to arrive, but it didn't disappoint.  I will include links to the AE site for the dies I have used - just click on the name of the dies below.

Both the "Window Square Frames" and the set of three "Leaves with Beauty Embossing" work really well.  The prices are so good ... it's hard not to buy from AE. I just have to learn to be very patient for my order to arrive. :)

Butterflies

First I wanted to wish the best to all my fellow British Columbians who have been effected by the terrible forest fires in our province.  Over 45,000 people have been evacuated from their homes.  Saying it's devastating is an understatement.  Please keep them in your thoughts.

There have been hundreds of wonderful people volunteering and helping out to make life a little easier for those displaced.  People really come together in a tragedy.

Luckily my sister, husband and two pups made it out safe and are down in the Lower Mainland, staying with our Mom.  They will stay until it is safe to return home.

On to the card ... I used a set of die-cuts I bought while on my craft retreat with friends.  Love these three blocks with the butterflies and frames.

I started by spraying starch over a piece of mixed media paper.  I dropped in turquoise and orange re-inkers and let it spread on it's own.  Once dry, I die-cut the three butterfly squares from white card stock and the trimmed pieces of my watercoloured paper to fill the background.  I overlapped them slightly to create a fun design and stamped the sentiment in turquoise ink.  Fun and easy card to make.

Summer Blooms

Hi everyone.  I just bought this gorgeous new stamp set from Simon Says Stamp called "Bouquet of Thanks".  I had to have it after watching this amazing video by Amanda (Little Crafty Pill).

I first heat embossed the flowers and sentiment with gold embossing powder.  Then I watercoloured using my zigs and added a few sequins for some sparkle.  I'm sending this to a friend's daughter who is dealing with serious medical issues right now.  I hope it will cheer her up a little.

I'm adding this as my second entry at The Flower Challenge #10 - Embossing Heat/Dry.  I heat embossed the flower image and sentiment. :)

You Are Cherished

Hi everyone.  Today is a reminder card for the CAS Watercolour July Challenge - Butterfly.

Not only is it a reminder day, it's also Bonnie's birthday!!  Happy Birthday, my sweet friend!  You are cherished, Bonnie!  Hope you are having a wonderful day. You'll get a sneak peek today of your card, which will hopefully be delivered soon! :)

I used a piece of watercoloured tissue paper for my background.  Click HERE to see my video tutorial on how this was made.

I added some Delicata Gold ink to my watercoloured tissue paper for some shimmer.  I squirted Delicate Gold reinker onto my craft mat, spritzed with water to dilute and then moved the gold ink around with a palette knife.  Then I dipped my dried watercoloured tissue paper gold ink, randomly.  The same colour inks was used for stamping the splat background.  I added a torn piece of white card stock on top and stamped the sentiment.  The same gold was used to colour the butterfly.  I just love this yellow-gold colour with sparkles.  I added three sequins for more sparkle.

My CAS Mix Up card has stamping, tissue paper watercolouring, splattering, torn edge, and die-cutting.

Watercoloured Tissue Paper Die-cut

Hi everyone.  A reminder that we are already half way through July.  Still just over a week left to play along with CAS Mix Up July's Challenge - Tissue Paper.

I created this watercoloured, textured, and heat embossed background while filming my latest video (Tissue Paper Watercolouring & Techniques).  I used it to die-cut the flower and frame, placing it over a soft brown script background (second generation stamping).  Both the frame and flowers are popped up for added dimension.  I've had so much fun playing with tissue paper this month!!

Another Split Panel Design

Hi everyone.  First I want to thank my wonderful SIL, Alex for helping me create some beautiful photo backdrops.  We worked together gathering items from around my house.  Alex put them together to create four fantastic vignettes, photographed them and had them printed onto vinyl.  It's been lots of fun and a great learning experience for me as well.

On to the card ... I tried the split panel technique again, this time using the same white background for both pieces rather than swapping out the split part with coloured card stock.  I heat embossed the image twice in liquid platinum before colouring, splitting and swapping panels.  The sentiment banner is also heat embossed with the same liquid platinum.

I used the beautiful image from WPlus9 that I received from my friend Trina.  I watercoloured with Stampin' Up! dye inks this time.  I think I like the brightness of the zig watercolouring better, but I really wanted to use red this time and find there is not a good red in my set of 48 zig markers.  They mostly go on as bright pink and I wanted to have a true red this time.

Angled Butterflies

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing a twofer.  I created two cards using one piece of watercolour paper inked with paper towels* that I used to mop up leftover ink from another project.

I started by using temporary tape to tape together my coloured piece along with a piece of white card stock.  I cut them together at the same time to create two angled panels.

The white angled pieced was inlaid with the coloured outside piece to create a flat card front.  Then I cut a second white angled piece a little larger and popped it up over top to create the card above.

I stamped the butterfly twice with black archival ink and coloured with my zigs. Used one on each card.

For my second card, I used the angled watercolour piece over a white card base. Happy to get two cards from one watercolour panel. :)  I kept everything else the same for the two cards.  Here's the second one ...

* To create my watercoloured panel, I used paper towel to mop up leftover ink from another project (blue and green distress inks).  I dried the paper towel and kept it until I was ready to make this background.  I laid the piece over top of Hot Press Watercolour paper, misted with water, and then pressed randomly with my fingers to transfer the ink (and pattern from the quilted paper towel) onto my panel.

Watercoloured Tissue Cards from Video

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing the details (and close-up pics) of the three cards from my latest video - Tissue Paper Watercolouring & Techniques.  The first card with the flowery heart die-cut is posted HERE.

This is the Metallic Tissue Paper technique that I learned from Karen (Karen's Kreative Kards).  After watercolouring my tissue paper with brushos and letting it dry, I scrunched it up, flattened it out a bit and then glued it to a piece of white card stock.  The scrunching creates lots of creases and texture.

I went over the piece with an anti-static pad and then lightly swiped my Versamark ink pad over top, just adding ink to the tops of the creases.  Embossing powder was added and then heat embossed.  This creates a gorgeous textured background with metallic highlights.  I simply added a silver foil die-cut snowflake sash and heat embossed sentiment to finish the card.

For the above card, I used watercolour sprays to colour my tissue paper.  Once dry, I glued the paper flat onto a piece of acetate (Grafix .007 acetate used here - available at Amazon.com). You need to use good quality glue and good quality acetate to get the tissue to stick. This creates a sturdy, semi-translucent piece that was used to die-cut the leaf sprig.  A stitched frame was added to the background and a sentiment was stamped to finish the card.

For the last card sample from my video, I used a dye ink watercoloured tissue paper and scrunched it to create texture.  The tissue paper was adhered to a piece of good quality acetate (see info above) using good quality glue in order for it to stick.  I flipped the piece over to use the acetate side as the front of my focal card panel. You can see the texture from the crumbled background through the acetate, creating a unique look.

I stamped the wildflowers in Versamark and heat embossed in gold.  A piece of vellum was ripped to create a banner and the sentiment was also heat embossed with the same gold.

CAS Watercolour July Challenge

Hi everyone.  It's the start of the CAS Watercolour July Challenge.  This month we want to see ...

Create a CAS (Clean and Simple) watercoloured card that includes a butterfly or butterflies! :)

I tried a new-to-me technique after seeing two gorgeous cards made by my friend, Linda (Life in the Craft Lane).  She used the Split Colouring technique which creates two cards at the same time.  I loved the look so wanted to try it myself.  Thanks Linda!

I created a CAS design with the above card by cutting down one of the panels so there was lots of white space.

The second card is below.  I left this one as a full panel, so it's not CAS, but wanted to share so you could see both versions.  As Linda mentions, use your Misti to place your stamp.  Stamp one image onto watercolour or mixed media paper and watercolour.  Stamp a second version onto a coloured panel. Cut the panels at the same place and mix and match. :)  Linda used clear embossing which also gives a subtler look ... I used gold.

CAS Mix Up July Challenge

Hi everyone.  Happy Canada Day to all!  Canada is the big 1-5-0 this year!! :)

Not only is today Canada's birthday, but it's the start of a new challenge at CAS Mix Up.  Bonnie is hosting this month's challenge and has come up with a FANTASTIC challenge  ...

  

I have been experimenting with watercolouring on tissue paper for the past couple of weeks.  I have found that tissue paper works with many colour mediums that can be diluted with water.  It's easy to do and you don't need expensive watercolour paper.
