The challenge this month is ...
********Cold and Frosty Colours********
I just got this stamp from Penny Black, even though it's been around for quite a while. This snow family is so adorable. I stamped the image in black and clear heat embossed. Then I watercoloured with distress inks and fussy-cut. For the card above, I combined Peacock Feathers and Pine Needles to create a deep teal colour for the hats and scarves --- LOVE IT! I added some shading with soft gray zigs. The background is embossing paste through a falling snow stencil. I left the bottom inch or so without any embossing paste so I had a place to stamp my sentiment. I sprinkled with iridescent embossing powder while the embossing paste was still wet. Once dry, I heat set. Unfortunately, you can't see the sparkle ... but it's really pretty in real life. :)
I also added several details to the snow family. The hats and scarves are Winked with Stella for a bit of shimmer, and glossy accents are on the noses. I also added subtle cheeks with pale lavender ink.
To finish, I popped the snow family on top of the embossing paste background and stamped the sentiment with Delicata silver ink ... this is fast becoming my go-to ink for Christmas cards. :)
Here's the second card. Everything is the same except for the colours used for watercolouring hats, scarves, and shading (Wilted Violet, Tumbled Glass distress inks).
I'm also adding this card to two other challenges: Penny Black Saturday Challenge - Anything Goes, and Penny Black & More Challenge - Something New. My snowy family stamp is new.
Edited to add: Adding to the Less Is More #362 - Purples challenge. So happy the challenge has been extended to two weeks long - hopefully I'll be able to play along more often! :)

Love those cute snowmen, the background is fab too. :)
ReplyDeleteAdorable and beautifully colored snow families, Loll. I LOVE how you mixed your DI colors for the beautiful teal on your 1st card. I never think to mix my DI colors.
ReplyDeleteLoved how you added EB paste thru my snow stencil or add the pretty glitter. TFS and always inspiring me, my friend. Hugs and Happy Stamping...
How about if you ignore part of my reply..lol! I loved how you added EB paste and glitter thru your snow stencil. I have not tried that technique. Such a pretty glittery effect:-)
DeleteI'm not sure what impresses me the most! It's both your beautiful water coloring and shading and your willingness to fussy cut! Love how this looks on your embossed background! I too have used iridescent embossing powder over paste but forgot to heat set when dry! Thanks for that tidbit. Mine all fell off after it dried from lack of heating it.
ReplyDeleteCan these both be ADORABLE and BEAUTIFUL??! Your little snowmen families are so cute but your coloring with the DI is absolutely GORGEOUS Loll!! I love both but especially the Teal colored family! Wonderful background too! Lovely, lovely cards my friend!! :0)
ReplyDeleteToo sweet Loll! I think your coloring is remarkable!! I love the dimension you create with color! : ) And I also really like the snow you created!

Both are just Fabulous.

I love every detail of these amazing cards !! Perfectly designed, Loll. Leaving the bottom bank without a paste gives the impression that the snow is floating in the air, and the snowmen really stand on the ground. And I love how you sparingly used colors. WOW! Great cards!
ReplyDeleteHugs,

These are adorable...and they would be cute in any color of the rainbow! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteWow Loll - you used one of my most loved (but not used often enough) stamps here - LOVE the teal as well as the purple version!

ReplyDeletetwo absolutely adorable cards, Loll to me you are the queen of fussy cutting. I struggle every time, die cutting is may savior. I love the cool colours and even though it's an older stamp it's timeless so perfect to add to your collection. Can't wait to check it out on our next get together:)
