After seeing Julia's fun card at the launch of the challenge with the dry embossed acetate, I had to give it a try. I used just a piece of acetate that came off the back of a stamp set, dry embossing it with a script embossing folder. I keep any acetate pieces I get for acetate smooshing ... and now dry embossing. :) This turned out so cool. I love the clear texture.
I used a small piece of watercoloured tissue that was in my stash. I ripped it and glued it to the back of my embossed acetate using Tombow Multi-Mono liquid glue, which dries clear. There is a bit of gold on the tissue (hard to see in photo), so I wanted to add a gold die-cut leaf and sentiment to match. I don't have this colour of gold card stock, so I used some matching acrylic paint and painted a piece of card stock. Once dry, die-cut my leaf. I have left over of this card stock to use on other projects. Stamped the sentiment with Delicata Gold ink which doesn't need heat embossing.
Popped the acetate panel on top of my card base, adhering clear pop dots under the tissue area only
Happy with my CAS design using acetate, embossing folder, watercolour tissue, die-cut and stamping. :)

ReplyDeleteIt's so beautiful (to think I just use the acetate as a layer when I'm mailing cards with embellies on it!) This embossed wonderfully, and brilliant of you to think to add the w/colored tissue behind one part of it. The dash of color makes the clear embossing show even better! The gold leaf was the icing on the cake! TFS & Hugs
ReplyDeleteI love your script acetate Loll. Looks so good in front of the torn tissue. Nice touch with the leaf and lovely sentiment. You beat me to it. I have made one using the same technique just haven't blogged it yet. Must have been on the same waive length. Another beautiful cas creation!

And with the piece of tissue behind it's absolutely spectacular! And how inventive to just paint some card stock if you don't have the right color! Will have to remember that trick! Fantastic card!

But I what I love most is that each element is well made and thought out - a pretty piece of watercoloured tissue (lucky you have it in your stash!), gold acrylic paint DIY cardstock, and the choice of your dry emboss folder for the acetate. ReplyDeleteThis is a definite WOW effect with embossed acetate over your color! What a new and novel technique - totally genius. Love this and will have to try it. Also love that you used paint to achieve the color you wanted. Great idea as we hunt through mountains of DP that never quite suites the work we are doing.

This is such a simple yet fantastic way to get texture on a card! Using the acetate from stamp sets makes it affordable for everyone too. Love how you colored your own cardstock to get the color you needed. I need to do that more often.
ReplyDeletePopped in a wee catch up on your blog and I am so glad that I did, This card is fabulous. I am wondering if overhead projector sheets would work for this dry embossing technique. I have a box on hand that was being thrown out at my work many years ago.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little focal piece Loll! I have seen dry embossing on acetate before, but always wondered how it could be adhered without seeing any glue! Thanks for the info on using Tombow (I use it all the time, but didn't realise that it would dry so clearly as to become invisible!) This opens up a whole new world to me now! Thanks for the tip! Dry embossing on acetate looks amazing, it has so much gloss! The use of colored tissue only on half of the acetate is a very innovative idea and looks beautiful. Golden knot so beautifully corresponds with a colorful and shiny panel.
