Hi everyone. Having fun layering elements to create more of a mixed media card. This time I layered a few shades of DOX inks, the most prominent being Wilted Violet and Fired Brick. Love how the dox inks show all the splashes and splatters of colour with drying in between layers.
I stamped a bit of dictionary background randomly on my panel, and then stamped my thistle in archival black ink. I added just a little bit of purple to the flower tops with a zig watercolour pen. To finish, I used white acrylic paint through a mini dot stencil (again randomly on the panel) and then heat embossed the sentiment in white onto black card stock. I cut the words up to I could add them separately.
Here's a close-up ...
Love this thistle image ... it's part of a two image set that I received from a friend. Thanks Dolly!

ReplyDeleteI have been WAITING to see how you inked up that Thistle stamp and so glad you used the colour challenge at JUGS to play with it. Super gorgeous background and I love the touch of purple to the thistle heads. What a happy day for me when you used my favourite flower - an elegant weed it is hehe.

ReplyDelete(*"Lolium temulentum, typically known as darnel, poison darnel, darnel ryegrass, or cockle, is an annual plant that forms part of the Poaceae family and part of the Lolium genus. The thistle plant stem can grow up to one meter tall, with inflorescence in the ears and purple grain. It has a global distribution." How did you know the bit about the purple?!)
Beautiful background with great text stamping and stenciling! Fabulous colours! Love the way you did the sentiment.
ReplyDeleteSaw this earlier, but was on a commenting marathon. Saved your card til last until I had a chance to really enjoy all the 'goodies' you used. Would never think of combining the Violet with the Fired Brick, but what an awesome blend of color it created. Love that thistle silhouette, and all the tricks you've pulled out on this card, just turned it into a stunner with lots of texture, interest & pretty color. WOW! TFS & Hugs (and lucky you to get this sweet stamp too).
ReplyDeleteLove the background to your thistles Loll, they are the bain of my OH. The first sign of them and he's off with his spray pack! ;)

ReplyDeleteAmazing!! I admire mixed media even though I have rarely created a card that would qualify as MM!! You make me want to dip my toe in to this beautiful style!! I especially love how CAS your card is. I guess I don't normally associate CAS with MM. A++++ Loll!
