Today's card uses Distress Crayons by Tim Holtz. I followed the video tutorial on the challenge blog by Shari Carroll. I had a play with spreading the colour of the crayons a while ago with no luck. Shari mentioned that you need to add quite a bit of colour, and once the colour is down, adding more on top makes it easier to spread and blend. It worked!! I used three colours (pink, orange and yellow ... my fav combination!). I did spritz just a little water to get things moving easier. My background is done on mixed media paper. Then I placed a harlequin stencil over top and used a baby wipe to remove some of the colour. Love the artsy background I ended up with.
Stamped my flowers in black and added a white frame with stamped sentiment. I will definitely be using my Distress Crayons more often! :)
Here's a close-up ...
Stamps: Insightful Meadows (Unity); Amazing Mackintosh Words (Chocolate Baroque)
Paper: Mixed Media (Strathmore 140 lb. 400 Series); White card base (Neenah 110 lb.)
Ink: Distress Crayons: Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed (Tim Holtz); Black (Memento)
Accessories & Tools: water mister, harlequin stencil (cut with my Silhouette Cameo), baby wipe, Rectangle Nestability (Spellbinders)

I love this card, Loll! Such beautifully chosen colors for the background made the black flower look great contrast. Placing the image in the window is a brilliant solution. An amazing card with the energy of a summer evening. I love it!

Glorious background, vibrant colours and great technique with the stencil and baby wipe technique. The black stamped flowers look crisp and gorgeous. Artsy and wonderful card and loving the sentiment script too x
Wonderful color choices for your background with the harlequin stencil Loll! The silhouette stampings really pop and I love the font on your birthday sentiment! Julia xx
Wow, you seem to succeed no matter what media you choose, Loll. Beautiful background with Distress Crayons! I often marvel how you make a technique look so easy and create a fabulous card. Love this!

Love your harlequin pattern and beautiful color palette, Loll! Thanks for sharing your experience with Distress Crayons and for all the links for video tutorials...I may have to buy them now, as I love the results!
Love that background, my friend! This is a technique I hadn't tried yet! Need to get busy on that because it's fantastic! Love the sweet silhouette flowers against the pretty colored background!
I really like your harlequin background; the colours and softness are a great backdrop for your black flowers
The hot colors really emphasized that bold harlequin pattern. Love your floral stamping over this. I have those crayons, and didn't have a great success with them, so they're in a drawer. TFS this link, I'll have a look and time permitting, I'll give 'em another go. Your efforts surely paid off big time. Love it! TFS & Hugs
What a great technique, Loll! Love the results you got. I must definitely try it. Beautiful colour combination, lovely silhouette stamp, nicely framed, and a wonderful font on the sentiment.
Love your background Loll. Stunning result.

Loving your warm colours in this piece. Definitely a successful result. The black stamping emphasizes the beauty of this gorgeous background and gives the perfect balance without stealing the show. Another awesome card, Loll xx

Pretty background and interesting technique. Something I'd never thought of for my crayons. You finished up with a beautiful card!
I love the harlequin look in those colors, Loll. I bought some gelatos on clearance at JoAnn's some time ago and have never used them. I guess it's time I play around with them.
Gorgeous crayon background and color lifting using your stencil. Your favorite colors turned out beautifully, Loll. Love your CAS framing too. I agree..a really fun challenge and wonderful way to use my crayons properly. TFS Hugs...
Loll your harlequin background looks amazing, great challenge to get us all using those distress crayons :)
Gorgeous fiery colours for this harlequin pattern Loll and love the contrast with the black flowers over the top against the white frame. x
Your card is just beautiful Loll! I love that background you got with the crayons. The black flowers are perfect on top of this sunset looking yet artsy background. Hugs, Brenda
I can see why this is your favourite colour combo... it’s beautiful! The stencilled harlequin looks amazing over top. xx
This looks amazing .... gorgeous colour combo. I have Distress Crayons and Gelatos and not used either very much, maybe I should give them another try xx
Your background is just GORGEOUS Loll! I have never had much success with the distress crayons either, but guess I need to give them another try as your card is just stunning!! Love how you used just a simple silhouetted image so the background is the star of the show! Lovely, lovely card my friend!! :0)
Wow what a gorgeous card and this technique looks so much fun. Though I don't have all the supplies you used. I'll have to search for something that I can do with my son's crayons ( we both are possessive for our colours.. hope he shares) thank you for inspiring yet again Loll!
Your background looks fantastic, Loll! Never thought of taking color away with the baby wipe but love the effect! Beautiful card!
A wonderful card, Loll! Love how you've created added interest by selectively removing colour. A great way to make your black flower silhouette pop.
