Gilded Butterfly

Hi everyone.  I've mentioned before that I keep my mop-up paper towels from projects and today's background has a print made from one of them.  I love how the quilted design of the paper towel shows. :)  I also smooshed just a little of the Delicata Gold ink onto my mat and added it on top of the watercolours.

I die-cut a butterfly that had sookwang tape on one side, removed the cover and pressed the sticky side into gilding flakes.  Used a "Rub-it Scrub-it" pad to burnish and remove the excess.  Placed a card front die-cut with a peek-a-boo window over the watercolour background and then popped the butterfly on top.  Stamped the sentiment in Delicata gold to match.

Here's a close-up ...

Stamps:  Many Everyday Messages (Hero Arts)
Paper:  Mixed Media paper (Strathmore 140 lb.) for w/c panel; White (Neenah 110 lb.) for card base, card front and butterfly
Ink:  Delicata Gold (Tsukineko)
Accessories & Tools:  water mister, peek-a-boo window die (AliExpress), Moonlight Butterfly die (Memory Box), Red Blaze gilding flakes (Cosmic Shimmer), Sookwang sheet, Rub-it Scrub-it pad

  1. What gorgeous colors, Loll! My mop up towels are pretty ugly. Never got anything as nice as this. Love the gilded butterfly and thanks for the reminder to pull out the gilding flakes again. Love that peek-a-boo window!

  6. Your card is beautiful! I absolutely love your blog; you definitely have the style of card making I love. Just so I make sure I understand, you use a paper towel with mopped up watercolor/ink on it for the background? That’s ingenious!

  9. It's a gorgeous design with the mop-up background, but I am in awe of the splendid look of that fabulous gilded butterfly. I'll echo Bonnie about the variegated coloring achieved with the flakes. Just beautiful, and the stitched window shows it off so well. TFS & Hugs

  15. Those flakes look stunning on your beautiful butterfly and the mop up towel with those colours look fabulous. Yes the impression from the towel gives another dimension to the card without using a stencil and yet it looks like it. Wonderful card Loll x

I just love all the colors in those gilding flakes, and really think I need to invest in some. I took a class using them once and was not real impressed, but your projects using them are always so beautiful that I think I need to give them another chance!! Lovely, lovely card my friend!! :0)
