I had a play day a while ago with Susan and Christine and we always try something new. It has really helped me to expand my techniques and uses for products. We love getting inky! :).
Susan suggested we try playing with inking line stamps. She had seen a video, so we basically followed this video from Jennifer McGuire. Although I've done this technique before, Jennifer has a couple of twists that were fun to try. One didn't work for me, but the other two did. :)
For the first card, the stamp was placed in the misti, inked with markers, lightly spritzed with water and stamped onto mixed media paper. I used a water brush to move the colour around. Once dry, I re-inked the stamp and stamped again for a crisp outline. This is a technique that I have done many times and it's always fun.
Here's a close-up ...
Below is a second card. This time Jennifer's video suggested spraying the watercolour paper and then stamping with an inked stamp. I didn't like the flow of the ink, so scraped that card.
I placed another piece of watercolour paper into my Misti and stamped again without cleaning off the ink from the previous try. This time I got all the leftover water and I really like how it only coloured parts of the flowers and leaves. Once dry, I re-inked the stamp and stamped again to get a crisp outline. To me, the card below has more of an artsy look to it. Happy with it!
As you can see, both cards are finished the same, splattered with green ink and stamped with 'thank you' in brown with top corners rounded.

Both cards are fabulous Loll. Great to try out different ways of a similar technique and you must have had so much fun with Susan and Christine. Love how you've gone back in with the misti to stamp a crisp outline. Loving both of them but the second one is so artsy and so unique....love it x.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievably beautiful! You painting is done so well on this the flower almost appears to be vellum. What a unique look. I too love the second one with all the added white space. This sounds so fun to do. Thanks for sharing this technique.
ReplyDeleteLove both versions, Loll, but a slight preference for the second one as I love it's artsy look. That was really fun playing with that technique.
ReplyDeleteTwo beautiful cards, Loll. Love them both, but if I had to choose a favourite I think I would choose the first one. Looks like you had lots of fun playing with a new technique. xx
ReplyDeleteBoth cards turned out beautifully, Loll! I love the crisp edges on the first one after stamping a 2nd time with your MISTI, and the dreamy effect you created with leftover water on your 2nd card! Such a pretty color palette, too!
ReplyDeleteTwo beautiful cards, my friend! I love the solid flowers with that lovely shade of pink! The second card has a wonderful artsy look! Spraying with water never works for me. You did really well to get something pretty from a second pull!
ReplyDeleteYour 1st card is beautifully marker watercolor stamped, but I really love your more artsy 2nd card using leftover ink on your stamp from your 3rd try, Loll. TFS both wonderful cards. So fun to get 2 finished cards out of your playing. TFS your cards and descriptions. Hugs...
ReplyDeleteI love the look this technique has given to your cards. This is one technique I haven't tried, but I have just got few floral stamps that would look lovely if done this way. Thank you for sharing the two versions Loll, you always inspire me to try things differently.
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are so pretty, Loll! You moved the color around so well for the first card. The stamping the outline for the second time gives a good definition. The second card is artsy and it has a special feeling to it. I love it!
ReplyDeleteExperimenting is my favorite part of card-making process, and you again inspired me to try a new thing! Thank you, my friend! Hideko xx
Both are beautiful, Loll! But I must say I’m a little partial to the the second artsy version. Great colours and love your rounded corners. xx
ReplyDeleteTwo very artsy cards Loll, might just have to get my markers out and have a go. That's if they haven't dried out since I last used them! :)
ReplyDeleteOh what gorgeous cards Loll - love that second one 'artsy' in particular
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Maxine
Loll Hi, I also believe that the second card is more artistic, but I like both equally hard. Great work with watercolors. I would like to join this challenge so much, but I will probably fail: - ((
ReplyDeletehugs,
BożenA
Gorgeous cards, Loll! I used to color my stamps (way back when...) with my SU markers, but never thought to spritz them. I might have to see if any of my markers still work. LOVE the color combination and the two very different effects you've achieved with these techniques. Gorgeous cards! Bev
ReplyDeleteBoth of these cards turned out beautifully Loll! I like the crisper image of the first card, but I really like the more loose look of the 2nd card too...you're right, it has more of an artsy look and I love it!! Two lovely, lovely cards!! :0)
ReplyDeleteI really like both of your cards and will try both of them. Thank you for showing them to us.
ReplyDeleteTwo very pretty cards. [Bunny]
ReplyDeleteLove these cards, Loll, and I especially love the second one - so artsy, I agree!! I'm putting it on my "to do" list! Thx!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done that technique in a long time & never got such great results! You've inspired me, Loll--need to try again with the right paper. I can't even pick a favorite--love them both! Judging from your last 2 posts, I'm thinking you love pink, too!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love how you got two very different looks just by changing up how you stamped with the water/markers! Both are very beautiful, but I am really loving that second one! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteTwo different looks from a slightly varied technique Loll - how fun to experiment - probably different stamps will work differently as well - the possibilities are endless???!!! I think I like the 2nd one best - but both are beautiful with their watery beauty! when I get a minute I'm going to go look for an outline stamp and try this!!??! Julia xx
ReplyDeleteAmazing delicacy! I adore the softness of these cards. The slight mouvement of colour makes them very special. I love both, they are very different and beautiful. Have got to check this video again, I missed something :D Beautiful done dear friend xx
ReplyDeleteThese are both so pretty, Loll ... soft, delicate and dreamy ... beautiful use of this cool technique! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteBoth are so pretty, but I think my eye likes the 'more controlled' look of #1. What fun you ladies must have had playing with inks and stamps, and practicing these fun techniques. #2 looks very loose and artsy, and is more soft & dreamy than #1. Both are wonderful looks though! TFS & Hugs
ReplyDeleteLove both cards! Gotta try these versions of just inking the stamp with markers and spritzing!
