Hi everyone. Today is the start of November, which means a new challenge for CAS Mix Up. This month's challenge is being hosted by Bonnie (Stamping with Klass), and she chose ...
I do use embossing folders for dry embossing quite often, but every once in a while I will use them for making prints. Very easy to do. For the card above, I used a brick embossing folder from Tim Holtz. I opened the embossing folder and on the inside, with raised design (usually the inside top), I sprinkled just a little Brushos (turquoise and dark brown). I spritzed with water until the crystals started to dissolve. I laid a piece of mixed media paper on top of the wet Brushos and embossing folder, closed the folder and pressed with my hands to transfer the design. This gives a very artsy design with a subtle look of the bricks.
I mounted the piece onto my card base, topped with a black piece of card stock which has been die-cut with Loon Lake. A Happy Birthday sentiment is heat embossed in copper.

I still had a bit of wet ink on my embossing folder, so I took a second print with a new piece of mixed media paper. The design is softer, but very interesting. I used a stencil, sponging in brown over top to add a partial clock face. A simple sentiment was stamped in the same brown ink to finish the card.

There are lots of ways to use an embossing folder. I hope you'll try a few out and come join the challenge. We excited to have Cornelia (Stempel Spass) as our Guest Designer this month. Please check out the challenge blog to see the lovely embossing folder cards from our talented Designers and Guest Designer, Cornelia.

CAS Mix Up November Challenge - Embossing Folder
Beautiful, Loll. Not only is the first card gorgeous, it's actually incredible how much the bg looks like a cloudy sky. Wow. So striking! And then you got a second lovely card out of the deal, too. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting topic of challenges this month. Your use of embossing folder is very innovative. You used it rather as a template and the final effect is unbelievable. I love the first card, when the background creates the surface of the water and the sky, it is so beautiful. I also love the second card, the delicate reflection of colors makes the drawing of bricks clearer and so beautifully corresponds with the image of the clock. This card tells me of passing away ...

Such a unique and artsy effect with how you've used the embossing folder. The black looks so dramatic and stunning on the first card and loving the copper sentiment heat embossing. Such pretty softer colours on the second card and love how you've used just part of the clock face stencil. Both cards are fabulous Loll x.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried dry embossing Loll, thanks for explaining the process. What lovely designs for the background and the black silhouette is really fabulous.
ReplyDeleteHugs Diane
I sure do love that back ground and have not tried this. Sounds like fun, much like Mono printing with stencils. I'm going to have to try this. Love the color and the black for the card base. It really makes your colors pop. What a gorgeous, masculine card.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Brushos dry embossed background for your 1st card and a 2nd pull for your 2nd card. I LOVE your die cut black Loon card front for your 1st card and stenciling on your 2nd card. 2 very different cards using the same dry embossed technique:-) TFS, Loll.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for your tag event, Loll. I have been busy the last 2 days finishing more tags:-) I am so happy to get tags done ahead of time for Christmas:-) Thank you for hosting again this year, my friend!!!
Your cards are very lovely! A very interesting technique to achieve the artsy pretty background! And, the black silhouette is perfect against the background!
ReplyDeleteOooh ! I love these two cards and this great, new to me, technique ! What wonderful backgrounds you've made here. The silhouette duck card is just stunning ! And I love the soft background you obtained with the second print. Can't wait to try this technique ! Thanks so much for sharing and for inspiring. Hugs x
ReplyDeleteYour beautiful background really pops out of the black die cut front Loll - such a stunning look! And the brown stenciling looks so nice layered over the 2nd pull background - gotta love getting two cards out of one technique! xx
ReplyDeleteThe second card has more of the look of bricks, whereas the embossing folder stamping gave you a lovely stormy sky for your first one. Beautiful blend of colours on the embossing folder. And great finishing touches with the loon die on the first one and the stenciled clock on the second. Love them both!!
ReplyDeleteTwo very striking cards, Lolly! They are great designs to showcase this technique and they'd be perfect for either gender!! Hugs, Dolly
ReplyDelete2 gorgeous cards Loll, don't think I've tried this and am keen to have a go. The loon lake die in the black looks stunning against the background too, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteIncredible cards, Loll. Both the first and second have such an interesting pattern from the Brushos and the bricks and each has it's own look. Very cool cards...and while I don't have Brushos, I think I may just try this with ink! Great ideas, great colors. Bev
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome! I too have some left over papers from my embossing folder stamping... could not let that bit of Brusho color go to waste....So different both cards - really pretty! Thanks for having me as GDT!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, your cards are stunning, Loll! I'm so impressed with the effects of Brushos and an embossing folder...WOW! Your cloudy sky is so beautiful, especially with your gorgeous die cut and your 2nd card is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks for inspiring us to try this technique :)
Wow Loll, love how you have used the technique and the fabulous results - that second pull with the stencilled image over it is stunning.
ReplyDeleteBlessings

two beautiful cards Loll, particularly like the first as I have just gotten myself a die that cuts the grass and birds to try doing designs like this. Now to get my embossing folders out and do as Cornelia said 'dust them off' and use them. Truly hope to participate this time round, always depending on mum and dad of course.
ReplyDeleteTwo FABULOUS cards Loll!! Love how your backgrounds turned out on both of your cards and am totally in love with the dramatic look of the black top layer on your 1st card! Two wonderful masculine cards!! :0)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the technique with the embossing folder, Loll. The first card is simply gorgeous! And I like the lighter impression on the second card. You are a font of stampy knowledge! :)
ReplyDeleteI have tons of embossing folders. I just hope I have time when I get back from NC to make a card for the challenge.
ReplyDeleteLoll, I love the blustery sky made by your brushos and EF, it's so beautiful against the Black of your silhouette die cut :)
ReplyDeleteI love the artsy look of both of these backgrounds, Loll! It gives a lovely sky for the loon scene and I love the stenciled clock on the background! Two awesome masculine cards!
ReplyDeleteYou are hot when it comes to techniques, plus a two for one. BRAVO! Can't chose, both are totally and equally stunning. Love the two choices of Brushos, which I will definitely try.
ReplyDeleteThey are both special, like I said, can't chose.
Two fab cards ..... love the backgrounds. The die cut from the black card looks stunning! xx
ReplyDeleteLoll your brick embossing folder created the perfect background for your water bird and the black card makes everything pop!
ReplyDeleteTwo beauties, Loll! Love using EFs as stamps, but never think of doing a second print... awesome idea with beautiful soft results. The first one is striking with the black diecut. Inspiring as always. xx
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are stunning, Loll! Love the artsy brick brusho sky backgrounds! The first card looks striking with the wonderful black Loon Lake front panel. The soft and more artsy second pull is just perfect for the partial clock face - a great choice of the stencil and the placement!
ReplyDeleteHideko xx
Two fantastic cards Loll, great technique I'm usually running the folder through the machine, but I'm really like the effects with Brushos and hand pressing. The first one is so eye catching with the black front die cut with that super duck pond.. perfect for a male card
ReplyDeleteThe black die cut against your inking is just beautiful. I will have to try this technique.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous background and wonderful cards, Loll!
ReplyDeletewonderful cards...I need to make time to play.
