CAS Mix Up November Challenge

Hi everyone.  Today is the start of November, which means a new challenge for CAS Mix Up.  This month's challenge is being hosted by Bonnie (Stamping with Klass), and she chose ...


I do use embossing folders for dry embossing quite often, but every once in a while I will use them for making prints.  Very easy to do.  For the card above, I used a brick embossing folder from Tim Holtz.  I opened the embossing folder and on the inside, with raised design (usually the inside top), I sprinkled just a little Brushos (turquoise and dark brown).  I spritzed with water until the crystals started to dissolve.  I laid a piece of mixed media paper on top of the wet Brushos and embossing folder, closed the folder and pressed with my hands to transfer the design.  This gives a very artsy design with a subtle look of the bricks.

I mounted the piece onto my card base, topped with a black piece of card stock which has been die-cut with Loon Lake.  A Happy Birthday sentiment is heat embossed in copper.

I still had a bit of wet ink on my embossing folder, so I took a second print with a new piece of mixed media paper.  The design is softer, but very interesting.  I used a stencil, sponging in brown over top to add a partial clock face.  A simple sentiment was stamped in the same brown ink to finish the card.

    Beautiful, Loll. Not only is the first card gorgeous, it's actually incredible how much the bg looks like a cloudy sky. Wow. So striking! And then you got a second lovely card out of the deal, too. Bravo!

    Such an interesting topic of challenges this month. Your use of embossing folder is very innovative. You used it rather as a template and the final effect is unbelievable. I love the first card, when the background creates the surface of the water and the sky, it is so beautiful. I also love the second card, the delicate reflection of colors makes the drawing of bricks clearer and so beautifully corresponds with the image of the clock. This card tells me of passing away ...

    Such a unique and artsy effect with how you've used the embossing folder. The black looks so dramatic and stunning on the first card and loving the copper sentiment heat embossing. Such pretty softer colours on the second card and love how you've used just part of the clock face stencil. Both cards are fabulous Loll x.

    I sure do love that back ground and have not tried this. Sounds like fun, much like Mono printing with stencils. I'm going to have to try this. Love the color and the black for the card base. It really makes your colors pop. What a gorgeous, masculine card.

    Gorgeous Brushos dry embossed background for your 1st card and a 2nd pull for your 2nd card. I LOVE your die cut black Loon card front for your 1st card and stenciling on your 2nd card. 2 very different cards using the same dry embossed technique:-) TFS, Loll.

    I can't wait for your tag event, Loll. I have been busy the last 2 days finishing more tags:-) I am so happy to get tags done ahead of time for Christmas:-) Thank you for hosting again this year, my friend!!!

    The second card has more of the look of bricks, whereas the embossing folder stamping gave you a lovely stormy sky for your first one. Beautiful blend of colours on the embossing folder. And great finishing touches with the loon die on the first one and the stenciled clock on the second. Love them both!!

    Incredible cards, Loll. Both the first and second have such an interesting pattern from the Brushos and the bricks and each has it's own look. Very cool cards...and while I don't have Brushos, I think I may just try this with ink! Great ideas, great colors. Bev

    two beautiful cards Loll, particularly like the first as I have just gotten myself a die that cuts the grass and birds to try doing designs like this. Now to get my embossing folders out and do as Cornelia said 'dust them off' and use them. Truly hope to participate this time round, always depending on mum and dad of course.

    You are hot when it comes to techniques, plus a two for one. BRAVO! Can't chose, both are totally and equally stunning. Love the two choices of Brushos, which I will definitely try.

    Both cards are stunning, Loll! Love the artsy brick brusho sky backgrounds! The first card looks striking with the wonderful black Loon Lake front panel. The soft and more artsy second pull is just perfect for the partial clock face - a great choice of the stencil and the placement!

    Two fantastic cards Loll, great technique I'm usually running the folder through the machine, but I'm really like the effects with Brushos and hand pressing. The first one is so eye catching with the black front die cut with that super duck pond.. perfect for a male card
