NOTE: December challenge will run Dec. 2 - 15
Thank you!
I started with a splash watercolour background done on mixed media paper in tumbled glass distress ink. I stamped the bluebell image onto the background with waterproof black ink. Heat set to make sure it was dry and then watercoloured with zigs. Used two shades of blue and one of green to colour the image. Cut a backing for my panel that was 1/2" longer and stamped the sentiment in black and then adhered my watercoloured panel on top. Popped it up on foam onto my card base for further dimension.
While I was at it ... I thought why does this have to be bluebells??!! There are lots of other flowers that have similar petals, so I watercoloured a second one in orange. Used another splash watercolour background on mixed media paper, this time in peacock feathers. Stamped the image with the same black ink and watercoloured with zigs.
Here's a photo of the second card ...
I personally like the orange card better because of the contrast of the orange on the blue background (complementary colours). Which one do you like better??

CAS Watercolour December Challenge - Thank You
Two really beautiful cards, Loll! Your watercolored backgrounds are so pretty and I love how you used your Zigs to color the petals on the bluebells! Once again, you have really inspired me to play along...Thank You :)
ReplyDeleteBoth are beautiful - I've always loved bluebells and have them growing in my garden in the spring. Needless to say, my preference is for the blue version, though the contrast of blue background with orange flowers is really striking.
ReplyDeleteI love the soft splash background for your blue bells, but have to agree..I like the orange a little better, just because it pops more. Your splash backgrounds for both flower images are so soft and pretty, Loll. Love how you added a longer main image white layer to stamp your sentiment. Will have to remember that trick:-) TFS my friend and Thank you for all you do to keep us inspired and loving our creating:-) Merry Christmas. Hugs, Nancy
ReplyDeleteBoth of these are painted so beautifully. How refreshing to see flowers again! Your soft backgrounds from splashing look fantastic with these. I must remember to do that when I just can't do that soft wash.
ReplyDeleteI love both cards but suppose the orange is striking in a different way. They are two gorgeous effects! Thank you so much for sharing your creations with us...I am always inspired; many times just want to drop everything and go experiment and play and always grateful to see your work!
ReplyDeleteThat's a hard question, Loll! I love the blue flowers with the blue background! The shades of blue have their own contrast! But then, the orange flowers against the blue are such a beautiful contrast and color combo! I love them both!
ReplyDeleteWhat stunning cards!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, Loll. I love them both, but if I had to choose a favourite, it would have to be the blue one. xx
ReplyDeleteI wouldn’t be able to choose a favorite! Both are lovely, Loll! Beautiful blue background and pretty flowers!
ReplyDeleteBoth beautiful cards Loll but being a Scot I have to go for the Blue Bells.
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are fabulous, Loll. One in my favourite blue colour and the other in your favourite orange colour! Ok, maybe not your favourite colour but close! 😂 Your splash watercolour backgrounds are gorgeous! Perfectly matched your gorgeously coloured flowers. xx
ReplyDeleteBoth Stunning cards, but then that is what I expect when I visit. Fabulous work.
ReplyDeleteFaith
Such lovely and delicate looking flowers. They are colored wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you Loll I like the bold and beautiful contrast of the orange against the perfectly done backdrop! but they are both beautiful! I struggle with watercolor cards because I prefer stark white cards. You have created a perfect solution to this by mounting your piece on white cs. Beautiful design! I feel a CAS in my future : )

Love the tones of the blues on your first card and such a beautiful and gentle background..... Then I scrolled down and saw the vibrancy of the second one....Of course I love them both but the complementary colours just nudges it for me x
ReplyDeleteVery inspiring cards! Thanks, Loll. Me? I prefer the blue bluebells.
ReplyDeleteTwo beauties, your splash background is the perfect from for both flowers. The orange really pops against the blue :)
ReplyDeleteLoll I like them both for differing reasons - the orange and blue for the stronger colours and contrast, and blue on blue for the sheer simplicity and peace that it gives.
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Maxine
Both are simply lovely. Good for you leading the charge to make orange bells. No one ever said they had to be blue. Someone whose favorite color was blue must have named them. You do such a good job with Zigs. I have to practice more because I hardly ever use them.
ReplyDeleteBoth colour options are gorgeous. The Bluebells are so delicate and pretty the orange blooms have a real happy feel:)
ReplyDeleteThey are both absolutely BEAUTIFUL Loll, but I agree that the orange flowers stand out more, and plus I just happen to really like the color orange! The flowers both look FABULOUS against the splashed background though and I love both of them!! :0)
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are so pretty, Loll! I love the soft and light blue splash background. The Zig watercolored bluebells are lovely with beautiful shades. The blue one a cool beauty and the orange one is a cheerful princess. If I have to choose, I'll vote for the second card for the color contrast.
ReplyDeleteHideko xx
Two gorgeous cards, both beautifully CAS and I love the soft backgrounds. I think my favourite is the blue but, I do like the contrasting colours on the second one xx
ReplyDeleteTwo beauties Loll. That soft blue background is perfect for both bouquets. I do like the all blue xx
ReplyDeleteThe splashy backgrounds are lovely, Loll ... so soft and dreamy! Both colourways are delicious ... my heart is taken with the blue ... love the subtle look! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a very difficult choice, choose this card, which I like more. Both have different energies and that's why they are different for me. I love blue because it gives me relief, like cold water during the heat. Orange bells, however, charge me with energy for action. I think I would be able to choose a different card every day, depending on my mood.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
BożenA
I love them both, Lolly! I do think the orange is more striking and I do love anything poppy-colored ... but I also love bluebells, so ... I'm going to have to call it a draw! Love the backgrounds!! 🎄Happy Holiday Hugs, Dolly
ReplyDeleteso pure and lovely mf.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry I am late at responding. I am slowly trying to get caught up with life. With the extra daycare kids (my friend broke her knee so I have her kids when I'm able); another friend in a personal crisis and all the Christmas festivities and company, my life just got away from me.
I'm trying to catch up so please forgive me.
Happy New Year!! thanks again for all the most kind birthday wishes and I treasure that card you sent.
xx Karen
