CAS Mix Up February Challenge

Hi everyone.  It's the start of a new month, which means the start of a new CAS Mix Up Challenge.  February's challenge is being hosted by the super talented Hideko (Papercraft Boutique).  Make sure to check out the instructional videos on the challenge blog to see some of the many options!

Today's card uses the Hidden Word technique (also called Camouflage Die-cut Technique as well as other names).

I'm happy with how this turned out.  This floral image from Penny Black is perfect for creating a soft, delicate watercoloured image.  I used markers to colour the stamp (one colour at a time), spritzed with water and stamped, then blotted with paper towel.  It has a very soft look.  The word LOVE was die-cut from the center and popped up with foam so there's lots of dimension.

Below is a photo taken with the card laying down so you can see the depth of the letters ...
I hope you'll come join us for this month's challenge.  Check out the challenge blog to see some inspiring cards made by our CAS Mix Up Designers, as well as a card made by our lovely Guest Designer, Arlene (Sundaystamper Papercrafts).

Then make a CAS card using die-cuts with dimension and play along.  Hope to see you in the gallery!

Stamps:  Garden Gems (Penny Black)
Paper:  Mixed Media (Strathmore 140 lb. 400 Series)
Ink:  Distress Markers:  Abandoned Coral, Barn Door, Gathered Twigs (Tim Holtz); Stampin' Write Markers:  Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive (Stampin' Up!)

I love the loose water coloring of this image, Loll! What beautiful feminine colors you chose for this. I love this technique too but it always makes me cringe to die cut into finished artwork. Outstanding job with this technique!

The hidden die-cut sentiment, LOVE, is perfect for the soft, delicate, and beautiful watercolored roses, Loll! Your magic paper towel played a big role here again. :-)
The second picture shows the depth of the letters so well. I love that the roses and the leaves look like they're wrapping the sentiment gently - a great design.

Sometimes I think the hidden word is too hidden, Loll, but the layout of your lovely flowers makes the word visible enough to read without taking over the card.
