Hi everyone. Today I'm sharing three cards all made from the same stamp (poinsettia poem 40-700), which is part of the newest release from Penny Black. I'll be sharing more cards over the next few months using many of the new, beautiful Christmas images.
For my first card I've heat embossed the image in white. Used distress inks and dye inks to watercolour the image, adding a wash of soft gray in the background. The sentiment "NOEL" is from a different stamp set in the new release (all the trimmings 30-618). I framed the panel with a new frame die set (stitched loops 51-573).

Second card uses a portion of the image ...
For this card I smooshed blue and green distress inks to create a colourful background. The same poinsettia poem image was stamped over top and heat embossed in silver. I used a small paint brush and bleach to remove the colour from the image. Soft gray dye ink was used to add some definition to the petals and leaves. A sentiment, "MERRY", which is from another stamp set of the new release (merry builder 30-619), was heat embossed in silver to match the image. The panel was popped up on foam for added dimension.

Third card uses just a small portion of the image ...
This time I coloured the stamp with distress markers, adding one colour at a time, stamping, and then using a water brush to move the colour from the outline to fill the image. It gives a very delicate, light look to the watercolouring. This has been done expertly by my dear friend Bonnie for years, and I finally gave it a try. LOVE the look!
Only a portion of the image was die-cut with a circle. The circle was popped up on foam for added dimension and a small red card stock banner was added with white embossing of the sentiment "Greetings of the Season", which is part of another new stamp set (merry up 30-622).

I hope you've enjoyed the three different techniques I've used with this gorgeous poinsettia image.

Gorgeous cards, Loll! Your watercoloring brings all of these beautiful images to life and I love the frame on the first card...WOW! You've inspired me to try some new techniques today...Thanks! Barb xx
ReplyDeleteOoh, I did enjoy, my friend! I love the vivid colors of the first card and that gorgeous frame! The soft gray wash makes the colors really stand out. The soft gray flowers show beautifully against the blues and greens in the background. And I love the soft colors of the third card with the darker background and white sentiment. All are awesome!
ReplyDeleteStunning cards, Loll. I love the frame die you've used on the first card - so pretty. xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous poinsettias on all your lovely cards, Loll! Love the pretty frame on the first card, too!
ReplyDeleteI often have trouble coming up with one idea for a new stamp and you come up with three beauties. Love the painting and framing on the first one. The second one intrigues me. Love how you tinted the bleached image with gray and how effect it was in removing the background color so perfectly. I've done the technique that Bonnie does but haven't used it in a while so thank you for the reminder! I like that look too.
ReplyDeleteThree wonderful and very different cards using that new stamp. I love them all, but especially the bleached out one - great idea to add a bit of grey for definition in the petals. The small circle on the third card is lovely too - I never think to cut down my images like that so must remember to.
ReplyDeleteThree beautiful cards Loll, I love your inspiration using this stamp set. I think my favourite is the bleach but so hard to decide :)
ReplyDeleteClever clever work. Love it. You're so productive! Not like me.. 😉
ReplyDeleteThree different looks from one beautiful stamp! Love the use of grey in the first two cards. Great inspiration, thanks Loll! Stef x

ReplyDelete(bending down to pick my jaw up off the floor) Loll these are amazing - who would have thought is was the same stamp on all three of these stunning cards, and with such widely differing techniques too - love them all
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Maxine
They are all absolutely fabulous. Beautifully colored. [Bunny]``
ReplyDeleteJust dreamy!
ReplyDeleteThree amazing cards Loll and with just one stamp. Love the bleached effect of the second, so pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteAll 3 are absolutely BEAUTIFUL Loll and of course I had to order the Poinsettia Poem after seeing your lovely, lovely cards!! Thanks for enabling my friend!! :0)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards, Loll.
ReplyDeleteThese are all so delicate and pretty, Loll ... gorgeous colouring ... love the dainty framing on the first one especially! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards, and each one so different. The new PB release is fab .... this could get expensive!! xx
ReplyDeleteThree gorgeous cards Loll and some superb watercolouring on each and all so different and so pretty. The contrast is wonderful with the first such strong colour and beautifully framed, and the second with the stunning blue and green background with the flowers totally whitened with bleach, and love that you have added just a little gray shading back in, and then the much softer watery look of the third using distress markers. Fabulous work! x
ReplyDeleteWow, you did a fantastic job of showcasing the versatility of the new poinsettia stamp, Loll! All three cards are gorgeous and I love all of them! The watercolored poinsettia and the background of the first card have so much depth, and the colors are so beautiful! The ink-smooshed, bright background and the monochromatic flowers make a great contrast (2nd card). And the image colored in the Bonnie-way is so pretty! Penny Black is so lucky to have you!
ReplyDeleteHideko xx
Wow what amazing show casing of this beautiful stamp. You have made it look so versatile and so very useful. All so different and all stunning....I love them x.
ReplyDeleteSimply loving these Loll.....
ReplyDeleteAll beauties. The second is my favourite. The bleach make those blooms shine through against sur that interesting BG. Another technique on my "MUST TRY" list, thanks!
ReplyDeleteA nice background for these beautiful poinsettia. Its irregularity is a great advantage, it makes the card gain some movement. But the second card won my heart. Yes, these are the most beautiful colors combined together :-) Bleached flowers are amazing. The third card is the perfect CAS design with fantastic watercolor technique
