Hi everyone. Three friends of mine are playing along with the Monday videos from Gina K, learning new techniques. I have been loving the cards I'm seeing from them, so I joined them Monday night and watched as Gina showed how to use coloured pencils on kraft without having to use any blending liquid. Here is a link to her video Coloring on Kraft Card Stock with Colored Pencils. Fast forward through the first part where the audio is not good until you get to the actual colouring. Gina fixes the audio part way through the video.
I only have crumb cake and baked brown sugar card stock from SU! I don't like the lightness of the crumb cake, so I used the darker colour. This is darker than kraft, but I'm happy how it turned out.
I stamped my image in black ink. Used three colours for the petals (magenta, pink, white), three for the leaves (olive, lime, white) and dark green for the stems.
It took me MUCH longer to actually decide on the design than it did to colour the image. :) In the end I placed a plain piece of brown sugar card stock through the aperture of the white card front with stitched square cut-out. The card front has been dry embossed with leafy branches, but couldn't capture them in the photo. The peonies are popped up through the window so they hang outside the edge of the frame. Sentiment is stamped in black.
Close-up ...
I don't have a good pencil sharpener (more shopping!). So I ended up colouring over the lines in the center of the petals and leaves. I had left my image in the Misti, so once I was finished colouring, I restamped the black and heat embossed in clear. It really made a big difference.
I rarely have time to play along with Just Us Girls, so happy I can this week for their "Frame It!" challenge!
Thanks for shopping by!

ReplyDeleteThe colouring on kraft looks fabulous on your beautiful card. The design looks perfect and I love how the peonies peep out from the frame...Great idea to re-stamp too Loll x.
You always manage to make everything seem doable. THanks for the hugs and kisses photos. Love all around.
ReplyDeletethe pictures of your mom with Jessie is just precious! So happy she can be with you again visiting! You and Lin are on the same page and now I know that trick to leave the stamp in the Misti and when I am done coloring, go back and stamp again, and I love how the clear ep looks...much better thank just ink! Fabulous job on your first card for Gina K...see you tonight!!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely pics of your Mum and Jessie, Loll. Brought a tear to my eye - it must have been lovely for you to have her visit.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to check out that video - this is a great card and I've never tried to colour on Kraft! xx
Wow, your card is stunning Loll! I feel like that is all I ever say, but it is so true. You got great coverage with your coloring and it is silky smooth looking too. I love the kraft color behind the white, it just pops. The peony flower look so great sticking through to the outside of the frame. So love the colors you chose as well. You are good at everything Loll! The pictures of your sweet mom and Jessie are to precious! I love your mom's face when Jessie is kissing her ear, definitely a great capture! Jessie is so sweet and I can't blame your mom for getting her cuddle time in. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check out the video and get some tips on that smooth pencil coloring! Beautiful flowers, my friend! Love the photos of your Mom and Jesse! The second is priceless! I'm so glad you got to spend time together!
ReplyDeleteLoll, first of all, your pictures of Jessie and your Mom made me smile. Yup, just sitting here smiling, and I really needed it, so thank you for that. Your card is beautiful and so nicely CAS. Your pencil coloring on Brown Sugar looks amazing. You got great coverage. Well done!
ReplyDeleteOMG...Stunning pencil coloring on your stamped and heat embossed flowers on Baked Brown Sugar CS. I liked the richer brown color of the BBS instead of Kraft CS. I did see the dry embossed leaves on your white card base, which added a wonderful texture to your CAS card design. Your flowers are so beautiful and really pop. TFS the links to Gina's video. I am going to check it out.
ReplyDeleteThen as I scrolled down to comment I had the pleasant surprise of two adorable photos of your Mom and Jessie. You should have them printed and put in a double frame as a gift for your sweet mom...gosh...one for you too:-) Thank you for sharing your card and photo...you made my day:-) Love and Hugs...Nancy
Lovely photos of your Mom and Jessie - such a treat to have your Mom come and stay.
ReplyDeleteLove your card - I must watch Gina K's video as I like using kraft. The darker background for your pencil colouring gives a real richness and depth to the colours. Love the way the flowers are coming out of the frame.
Your pencil colouring on the darker card looks amazing Loll, I love your card -- to fussy cut and then use the same colour card for the window a fantastic idea and over stamping in the Misti and then embossing too. Wonderful photos of your mum and Jessie, very special. Hugs and stay safe Robyn
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Loll, I love pencil work on coloured paper, I wish I had a little more time to watch the GK videos:)
ReplyDeleteGreat photo's of Jessie and your mum.
A fabulous result Loll - loving the card you created, and how wonderful the embossing over the colouring looks.
ReplyDeleteLooks as though Jesse and your mother had a wonderful time together
Stay safe
Blessings
Maxine
What beautiful photos of your mum and Jessie, family time is so precious right now.
ReplyDeleteI love the effect of coloured pencils on Kraft card and you've done an amazing job here. The colours are so intense, and look really pretty on the darker shade of card. Such a nice design too with the delicate embossing on the front xx
PS .... if you find a decent pencil sharpener please let me know .... I've tried many!!!
Beautifully coloured Loll! The pencil on kraft is a great combo and the embossing makes it pop! I love the pics of Jessie and your Mom! So special:)
ReplyDeleteLoll, I came by specifically to find out about that kraft cardstock - it's a color of kraft I'd never seen - and gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLOve the marvelous magenta of these blooms. Layering your colors really brought dimension, and life to these beauties.
I've been missing my mom so much lately... thanks for sharing yours, and your other best girl! Tickled me, too!
=]
I adore your prettily coloured peonies on brown card Loll and re-establishing the outlines after colouring and heat embossing looks great. You can see the lovely dry embossing in the close up photo and it really adds to the wonderful finished look. I will take a look at this video as I have used pencils on kraft but have found it difficult to get enough pigment down, but this may be down to my pencils which are not as good quality as the Prismas. Great photos of your Mum with sweet Jessie..special times! x
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely beautiful! Great coloring!
ReplyDeleteLove that photo of your mom! How great she looks and how cute with the pup! The card and your coloring is just amazing. I have not done pencil on color in a very long time so thank you for the inspiration! You did an amazing job blending too. I too never use gamsol. The few times I tried it messed up my shading. Prismas do a great job blending themselves and I see you've mastered that already!
ReplyDeleteYour card is absolutely BEAUTIFUL Loll and your blending of colors on the kraft (or Brown Sugar) is awesome! Lovely, lovely card and so glad you got a chance to play along with Gina! I just bought a new battery operated pencil sharpener and love it! Gina has mentioned in several videos she likes the Orbit brand, but I didn't see real good reviews on them and instead purchased a JARLINK brand one...it works beautifully! And I love, LOVE the photo of Jessie licking your moms ear...what a sweet, sweet photo!! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteAnother really beautiful card, Loll! I love the effects of your colored pencils on the image...your color palette on Kraft is so pretty! I also love your choice of stitched frames, too! Thanks for sharing the link to Gina's video...I can't wait to check it out :)
ReplyDeleteLove your photos of Jessie with your mom...priceless! Thanks for making me smile :) Barb xx
Oh, Lolly, I would have recognized your Mom anywhere! What a complete cutie just like you! And how incredible is her skin and hair for the age she is. Wow. Good genes, but she is teeny. That second photo is as charming and adorable as can be! You know how sometimes you see photos of a person as a kid and then as a mature person and they look exactly the same? That's what I'm seeing here. You know she looked just like that when she was five years old and a puppy licked her ear! Priceless of her and Jessie both!
ReplyDeleteOh and, yes, I also love your card, lol! Beautiful coloring with your pencils and I love how you tucked it half in and half out of the frame. Thank you for the link! Love, Dolly
Beautiful coloring, I will have to try the technique! I love the design of the card.
ReplyDeleteGREAT pic of your mom and Jessie -- so sweet!
What a super result you got! The blending is amazing and I love the design.
ReplyDeleteHow sweet that you had your Mom to visit... I sure miss mine.
Pretty colouring on this dark kraft card. Great card, Loll.
ReplyDeleteWonderful colouring on kraft. And perfectly framed.
ReplyDeleteJessie with your mum is just so sweet. What a treat to have your mum visit.
Love your coloring on the Baked Brown Sugar, the colors are so pretty. I love the way you have the flowers sticking out of the frame.
ReplyDeletePrecious photos of your mom and Jessie. TFS
The pencil coloring on kraft (Baked Brown Sugar) looks amazing, Loll! Love the magenta against the light brown. The clear heat-embossing the re-stamped outline definitely gives more definition to the image.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the video link and the wonderful pictures of your mom and Jessie! Her smile makes me smile!
Hideko xx
What fun photo's, Loll ... they really capture the moment! Gorgeous card too ... those colours pop beautifully against the dark cardstock ... and yes, I see some of that lovely subtle texture! Hugs, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteGreat card, I think the color choice for craft cards was great. And as always, I love the design and arrangement of individual elements. The last photo shows the embossing of the front, it looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour mother is a wonderful lady and she certainly loves Jessie with each other
xx
Oh your mom is beautiful, I can see that Jessie agrees with me. These photos are precious. Back to the card. Love the peonies popping out from the frame and the dark kraft paper gives such a rich allure.
