Sharing another new-to-me technique. Following Eileen Godwin's methods, I sponged (very lightly) gesso through a stencil (Leaves - Simon Says Stamp - retired) onto my card front. It dries in seconds and then I could move on to the next part, which was sponging distress inks (Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Worn Lipstick) over top of the gesso'd stenciling (I masked a border before starting). Used blender brushes to get a nice blend of colour and then used a damp paper towel to remove some of the ink from the gesso'd areas (resist). Removed the mask and then stamped my image (Wildflowers - Inkadinkado) and sentiment (Cosmos - Technique Tuesday - retired).
To finish added some Clear Wink of Stella around the outside of the stenciling leaves and stems, making sure not to touch the black ink stamped wildflower because it was done in non-permanent ink. Added a few white dots around the stem of the flower to complete the card.

This is another technique I did with my friends over Zoom. We are learning to much and having a lot of fun! :)Is it just me, or does it seem like stamps and stencils are being retired more quickly now??!! I guess it's all to keep us buying the latest new releases. But I do love a lot of my older stamps and stencils and I won't be getting rid of them. This just means my studio is bursting at the seams right now and I really need to find a larger space. :)
I'm sending this card over to the Seize the Birthday #207. I'm not using the optional topping this month, but wanted to share my latest birthday card! :)

Will have to try this again. Last time I much have used too much gesso and was not pretty. Yours is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card, Loll. The colours are so pretty and a lovely effect from the stencilling. xx
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Loll, your stenciling resist is gorgeous and what a great colour combo :)
ReplyDeleteReally pretty effect Loll, the gesso resist technique with the soft inking is lovely, as is that floral silhouette, must give this a go! Thankyou for joining in at Seize the Birthday too, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteHow lovely Lolly!
ReplyDeleteI need to try this - am so glad you're enjoying your zoom time with the buddies (even if I am a little jealous!)
I have rechristened my play area 'The Abyss'! xx
Well Hello, Loll! So good to see you here at Seize the Birthday. I adore this card and will have to look into this technique. It looks amazing on your card. I love the CAS look as it is so awe-inspiring!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this card with us at Seize the Birthday Challenge.

Gorgeous card, Loll! Looks like a very interesting technique. You find some neat ones, that is for sure. And execute them beautifully. :) As for retiring product quickly, I agree that the companies have to make room for new products. It seems a lot of companies not only have monthly releases, they are also offering kits/subscriptions and the like as well. It's quite overwhelming at times. I can't afford to keep up, even if I wanted to! LOL Keep those favorites and use them well. Crafty hugs!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous Loll and such a beautiful background with the gesso technique and the beautiful wild flower and sentiment stamped over the top. x
ReplyDeleteThis is SO pretty Loll! After trying homemade gesso last year and failing, I bought a bottle of the real stuff and it's still sitting on my shelf!! After seeing this beauty though, I think I need to give it another try!! Your colors are so soft and pretty and I just love the hint of the leaves peeking through in the background! And of course the black silhouette totally pops against it! LOVE this card!! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful, gorgeous colours. x
ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely and the new technique is perfect for this stamped image! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteAnother fun technique Loll and such a pretty effect. The background is subtle and pretty and the black silhouette looks amazing against it. The wink of stella looks so pretty too x.
ReplyDeleteThis card turned out beautifully, Loll! I love the soft blending and the effects of Gesso through your stencil is fabulous! I can see that you're having a great time on Zoom with your crafty friends...way to go!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to buy stamps and stencils that I love before they are retired so I don't miss out, but it's hard to keep up, especially with the expense of our hobby :) Stay well, my friend...xx
So very beautiful, Loll! You were so smart to steer clear of your stamping - I had a miserable fail the other day for this very winking mistake!
ReplyDelete=]
I agree that they are retiring our supplies way too quickly and often replacing with very similar pieces. Your background is beautiful and this wildflower stamp will be staying in my collection too!
ReplyDeleteLove how our Gesso resist stenciled background turned out Lolly and your added stamped silhouette wildflowers. Your white dots were such a nice addition too. TFS your technique my friend. I love this technique and will be using it again. Love and Hugs...Nancy
ReplyDeleteThat background is SO impressive and so beautiful! That’s my most favorite silhouette stamp of all time too. What a gorgeous card and fabulous color combination. I too am not fond of the idea of retiring images so quickly. By the time I see one or hear of it it’s out of circulation.
ReplyDeleteMy attempt at this technique did not work out nearly as well as yours did so I must try it again. Love the softness of the colours and the sponging. Love the wildflower on the top of it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful result from this technique Loll - love the soft colours and the drama of the silhouette against it.
ReplyDeleteI agree about not parting with the older stamps that we love - yes, marketing is aimed at profit only...
Stay safe
Blessings
Maxine
A Beautiful result and lovely colours.

Clean, simple & fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful card, Loll! I love the idea of a bit of texture with the gesso stenciled leaves. Lovely sponged colors to let the simple flowers stand out! Into my favorites!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous background for your lovely silhouette and a great technique to try. Thanks for your detailed explanation.
ReplyDeleteI am really loving the look of this technique Loll! Your card is gorgeous, loving the colors you chose-looks like liquid sunshine! And then of course looks like my favorite weed, Queen Ann's Lace. So pretty! I think we are all bursting at the seams with crafty goodness Loll. lol But it is so hard to part with any of it! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning, Loll. I'm so glad you introduced us to Eileen's videos and I have a lot of Lavinia stamps and wasn't sure what to do with them so this is perfect. I will try this again as my gesso must be old since it fell off my last card when it got dry! I love the soft colors you used and I agree, to many new stamps when our older ones are wonderful. This is a great one that you gave love to.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I just love that background xx
ReplyDeleteYou're so good with whatever technique you try. It's a great adventure and a beautiful card, Loll!
ReplyDeleteThat turned out beautifully, Loll. I didn't have much luck with that technique - I must try again.
ReplyDeleteDear Lol, I love your cards, please don't stop using your retired stuff, I can't keep up with the new releases!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and subtle gesso resist background, Loll! Love the wonderful contrast between the black floral silhouette and the soft background.
ReplyDeleteYou're not alone - I feel like I'm always looking for space and re-organizing storage space to squeeze my new stamps and dies! ;-)
Hideko xx
You've mastered this Loll technique perfectly. Your background is stunning. You inspired me to try this technique, but I have to keep trying many more times until I achieve a similar effect to your great card.
