Starting with CAS Mix Up, the above card was a simple and easy card to make. I sponged a piece of mixed media paper with angled horizontal strips of yellow, red, and purple. Misted the paper with water and took a large brush to go back and forth over the colours, washing my brush in-between colour changes. This is an easy way to make a watercoloured background. I let it dry and then splattered with drops of water and blotted to add some texture.
The birds stencil (STAMPlorations - Some Birds) is sponged in black ink. Added a simple frame and black sentiment (Many Everyday Messages - Hero Arts) to finish the card.
Here is the reminder card for June's CAS Christmas challenge - Snowman. I love this sweet image from Gerda Steiner (Little Snowman). I created some backgrounds using Brushos (Turquoise, Violet, White). I always sprinkle way too much, so just kept adding water and ended up with six backgrounds. :)

I added two torn snowhills on top. Then stamped my image onto my card and also onto a piece of mixed media paper. Fussy cut the image and watercoloured using distress inks. Added some dots with a white acrylic pen and red chalk for his cheeks. Glued him on top of the image stamped on my card.
Added a simple sentiment (Simple Celebrate Winter - Lawn Fawn) stamped in black and clear heat embossed to match the image.
Quick, fun card to make.

Wow, that sky is fantastic, I must try and remember that technique as I love the look. Those silhouette birds look amazing against it. Love your cute snowman too and his amazing sky backdrop, which looks fabulous against the white snow and co-ordinates with his hat beautifully xx

I love your washed beautiful sunset colored background for your silhouette birds inside the wide frame and your snowman is another cutie-pie on another stunning background! You have the best collection of adorable snowmen and fantastic design ideas for using them! Love, Dolly

WOW! I love your rainbow sky, great blending of colours and the stenciled birds look fab. Cute little snowman too! xx
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cards Loll - so glad I'm not the only one who uses too much powder when using brusho's - I ended up making prints last time to dilute the colour!
ReplyDeleteLove your snowman, and the background to your birds is stunning!!
Stay safe
Blessings
Maxine
Such a gorgeous pair of cards, Loll! The beautiful sunset is just perfect for the flight of birds and I love the simple framing. The snowman on the second card is just adorable and I love his spotty hat and rosy cheeks - thanks for the reminder that the chalk palette I used to use a lot is still sitting in a drawer!
ReplyDeleteHope you are well.
Take care,
Hugs

Such a pretty sky and a cute snowman. His hat and scarf are so colorful and keeping him so toasty.
ReplyDeleteLoving both of your cards Loll! Your silhouetted flight card is absolutely beautiful...I love the colors you used for your background and those birds just pop against it!! And your snowman card is just as sweet as can be! I keep trying to remind myself that when I use Brushos that "less is more", but I always put too much on too and have to keep watering it down! Someday we'll get it right, right??!! But anyway, your background is so pretty with the snowy hills and beautiful "blue" sky, and your happy little snowman looks right at home in your beautiful wintry scene! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteOh, the colors on your flight card -- love love! And your sweet little snowman is adorable! Love the snow and the Brushos sky. Hey, it's always good to have extra!
ReplyDeleteTwo really fabulous cards, Loll! I love your watercolor wash background and how you created movement on this card with those lovely birds! Your snowman is so adorable! You were really clever to match your sky with his hat and scarf and I love how Brushos adds so much texture to your background...Great job getting 6 backgrounds, too...way to go! xx
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful, vivid "sky" those birds are flying in! I love the colors and the black stenciled birds pop against those colors. Your snowman card is adorable Loll, I love that little guy! But that sky you created with your brusho's is amazing! The colors are so pretty and frosty looking. It's hard to control how much powder that comes out that pin hole. lol I always end up with tons of backgrounds too. I just need some different colors to play with now. I am loving these colors, will have to look them up and see about getting them. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteTwo wonderful reminder cards Loll and love the black silhouette flying birds over that prettily striped background, and then the sweet snowman and such a gorgeous sky and love the coordinating colours for his scarf and hat, and the torn paper snowhills look great. x
ReplyDeleteThe sunset looks great watercolored at an angle, Loll, and the birds are happy to be flying off into it. ;) That snowman is darling and your Brusho background superb. I always get too much powder on mine too.
ReplyDeleteFabulous colours and water colouring on the background of the first card Loll x. The brusho's look fabulous on your super cute Christmas card....love the face of the adorable snowman x. Wonderful inspiration, thank you Loll x.
ReplyDeleteThe gorgeous sky makes the bird silhouette beautifully pop, and all the colors look so beautiful inside the clean white frame! The spatters are subtle, but add so much interest to the simple background.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabulous brusho sky and the cute snowman of the second card. I can totally relate to the brusho amount issue. ;-) The shadows, the highlights, and the little pink cheeks of the snowman bring him to life. Thanks for your inspiration, Loll!
Hideko xx
