CAS Challenges October Reminder

Hi everyone.  Time for the reminder cards for the October CAS Challenges.  First up, CAS Mix Up, hosted this month by Bonnie.

Bonnie is our host.

I went out and picked up a few maple leaves from my yard.  The card above uses a small leaf that I coated with Gold Liquid Watercolour Concentrate and then pressed it through my Gemini Jr. with mixed media paper.  I love how the gold paint shows all the veins.  It's very subtle, but still very pretty.  I added a soft suede card stock base, along with a gold splattered backing to my main panel.

Close-up ...

I did a second print using a large maple leaf.  Using Hot Press watercolour paper and my Gemini Jr., I got two prints, this is the side with all the wonderful autumn colours (see photo below of leaf), which translated to pale green, yellow and purple when pressed.

Maple Leaf
I created a frame from seedless preserves by sponging around the outside edge of a piece of Hot Press watercolour paper and then sponging with gold watercolour.  I splattered more gold watercolour over my botanical panel as well.  The panel was cut to size and placed at the top right corner so the frame is only showing on the two sides.  The sentiment (AliExpress) is stamped in more Seedless Preserves distress ink, but I had to stamp several times to get a clean image which means that it's darker than I wanted.  The colours of the print are subtle, but so pretty and even better in real life.

This is not a CAS design but wanted to share with you.

Marcia is our host.

Started with a basic gray card stock base (SU!).  Used the Christmas Wreaths stencil (STAMPlorations), off the page, sponging with the leaves with blending brushes in basic gray ink.  The berries were sponged in white pigment ink first, left to dry, then sponged again in Fired Brick distress ink.  Used a metallic silver pen to outline the leaves and berries.  Finished with a silver embossed sentiment (Art Deco Celebrate Christmas - Poppy Stamps - retired) and a few dots of white paint.

  1. Love your two maple leaves Botanical Print cards, Lolly. Two slightly different techniques that turned out beautifully with the Gold W/C concentrate. I love how you used the colored cardstock and gold splatters too. This has been such a fun and wonderful Autumn mixed media challenge hosted by Bonnie:-)

Your Gray and Red stenciled CAS Christmas Card wreath is a beautiful CAS design too. Such a clever and creative way to use your STAMPlorations stencil, my friend. It would be perfect for the STAMPlorations Stencil Challenge..ATG.

  3. WOW! Came for one card and am delighted to get a whole bunch of paper goodness. So impressed with that gilded leaf. It's absolute perfection. The gold really exposed the veins and shape. You couldn't have picked a better color cardstock to mount it on...the spatter is just delicious.
Also, the larger leaf card knocked me out. Love the way the leaf transferred to the card panel and all the colors it left. The addition of the Seedless Perserves corner and gold spatter make it pop.

  4. Two wonderful pressed leaf prints and both so different with the soft gold on the first and then the green and purple coming through on the second leaf, and the purple and gold spatter edging on to sides is beautiful. The wreath in grey and red with just the green for the leaves is totally gorgeous and love the way you have set it to the left showing just half of it and the silver embossing is so pretty too. x

  11. These are really beautiful! I live in Florida so I don't have the pretty Autumn leaves falling or even hanging on the tree. Have you seen Robyn's blog? She does something similar - her blog is Waterlily Cards by Robyn. I am going to forward your post to her - I know she will find your technique very interesting!

  23. What an amazing color for your card base, Loll. It harmonizes nicely with the gold flecks, and the botanical gilded print on the white panel looks stunning.
The second card with all these colors looks almost unbelievable. I love how they blend beautifully. And another card with a Christmas wreath. I love the color scheme. The discreetly gray background beautifully presents the green and red of the wreath. The addition of silver borders gives the card a festive elegance.
    Such amazing cards, Loll.
