Penny Black - Festive Fragrance

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing a card using another stamp from the new Penny Black release, Making Spirits bright.  The stamp is called Festive Fragrance (40-791).

I stamped the image in Sahara Sand ink (SU!) very lightly and then no line watercoloured the Christmas greenery in shades of green, red, and brown for the vases and grounding.  The sentiment (Holly Days 30-869) is the final touch.  I had a few smudges of brown ink in my background so just added a few more to give it a vintage look. :)

We celebrated our Thanksgiving on Saturday, Oct. 9th with a lovely Turkey dinner.  While it was cooking, I mentioned that I would like to ink up this image and my son, Jeremy asked if we could watercolour together.  He has a degree in Visual Arts and is an Art Teacher at a High School in Richmond.  Below are the two images, photos taken by Jeremy and edited with a few filters.  I'm sure you can tell that the one on the right is Jeremy's version. :)  It was fun to work together and I did learn lots from him as well.

I went back and added a horizon line to my card and darkened up the vases and shadows.  What a difference, as you can see from the card at the top of this post.

Jessie enjoyed her turkey dinner too! :)

  3. The vases of foliage and berries are beautiful Loll, and you have given the vases lots of depth with your shadows and on and around them, and I love the highlights on the berries too. Artistic flair obviously runs in the family, and I love the photo of sweet Jessie having her after dinner nap. x

  5. What fun to watercolour the same image with Jeremy! I love your version just as much as his. The horizontal line is a good hint - I must remember to try adding that. Glad you all (Jessie included) had a good turkey dinner.

  9. What a beautiful card Loll, I love the vases, they look like amber vases. Your watercolor is just gorgeous. I'm glad you had a good Thanksgiving! But what is really cool is that you and Jeremy inked this image and watercolored together, that is so cool! I do love the changes you made to your panel, darkening the vases and giving that horizon line really made this card come to life. Yes, you can tell Jeremy is the professional art teacher! Awww, little Jessie looks all tuckered out. I swear she steals my heart all over again when I see a new photo of her. I could just snuggle that little girl right up! I hope she is doing well. Hugs, Brenda

  11. I love the original too, Loll, but it's amazing what a few tweeks can do. So glad you and Jeremy got a chance to work together and for the tips he gave you. I know what that's like. I often ask my daughter's opinion. I can't wait until she retires and we can do more art together.

  12. This is really a beautiful work of art, Loll. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. How wonderful that Jeremy is an Art teacher and you both crafted together. Both are so wonderful. Jessie looks so peaceful. Give her a hug from Daisy and I.

  13. How lovely to paint together, your finished card is wonderful. I love that you made the table darker and more dramatic and also that you managed to darken the vases whilst also keeping them transparent, very clever. I am so glad you enjoyed a happy family dinner xx

  15. Oh, my word, your end result is simply amazing! Wow, wowie wow! Beautiful depth and contrast. Love the stamp. Jessie looks like me the last few days. Been a little down since the flu shot, but better now. She is much more adorable, though.
