Hi everyone. It's hubby's birthday today and I wanted to try something a little different. After being inspired by a few friends that have started watercolouring their own images and another friend has recently purchased an instructional booklet on watercolouring, I thought I'd give it a try. This is my first attempt ... and I have a LONG, LONG way to go. :)
I watched THIS VIDEO and tried using some of her techniques to create my own scene. I decided to use Bristol paper and inks to watercolour and I believe I would have gotten better results with watercolour paper and watercolour paints. So I will be using them next time. I have lots ... just the inks were right in front of me. :)

I think you're at a pro level already Loll...this card is BEAUTIFUL and Gord will love it! Wish him a happy, happy birthday from me! Hugs. :0)
A first attempt? Wow! What a beautiful scene. It's just where I'd love to be right now. Happy birthday to your hubby!
It is very effective Loll with the trees and the mountains behind against the dark background, and you have some great perspective as the trees get lighter as they go back and the green at the bottom in the foreground is lovely and dark. I think it has lots of atmosphere and I'm sure your hubby loves it..wishing him a very Happy Birthday. x
Wow, beautiful watercolouring, you really nailed that misty effect. I'm sure Gord loved the card ♥
Good for you for branching out and trying to watercolour your own images!! It's a lovely scene and very impressive for your first attempt.
Beautiful watercolored mt and evergreen trees scene, Lolly. Gord will love it. It will be fun trying using watercolor paper (cold press is recommended for beginners plus WC paints). I am impressed with your 1st try. You have me inspired, my friend. Love and Hugs...Nancy
Happy Birthday, Gord! What a treat for him to have his card be your very first original work of art, Lolly! What talent you have; no one would guess this was your first! I can't wait to see where this fun new creative road takes you! Love, Dolly
Loll for a 'first attempt' I think this is amazing - I would not have thought it a first with the technique. A stunning card
Blessings

I bow to you for doing this and it turned out beautifully! Gorgeous scene, Loll! Thank you too for the video. Not sure I could do this but it does look fun to try. Great post and fantastic card for Gord!
WOW, Lolly, I'm impressed! I love the layered mountains and the evergreen forest. Happy Birthday to Gord! I hope he enjoys this AWESOME card!
If that is your first attempt you are going to be pretty amazing at watercoloring with a bit more practice. It is a beautiful forest and mountain scene xx
Beautiful card! It reminds me of Alaska views! Happy Birthday to your Hubby!
I think Bristol and inks served you well, Loll. This is fabulous. Watercoloring to me is a more difficult medium but I have a daughter who excels at it. She would say you did spectacular for a first try. Happy Birthday to Gord!
wow, Loll, this is great -- I think you did a marvelous job on your first attempt! Happy Birthday to Gord!
WOW! This looks incredinpble. Gord must have loved it! Happy belated birthday to him!
Your husband must have been delighted with this card! It's not a simple technique, watercolor likes to smudge, and you've managed to keep it in check. I also admire beautiful spruce trees, they look so majestic. The black frame binds the card incredibly well.
hugs,
