Penny Black - Pansies

Hi everyone.  Today I'm sharing a card made with a new release from Penny Black called Pansies (40-818).

I do love pansies ... they have those cute little faces. :)  I researched colours of pansies.  There are so many!!  But I loved the combination of pink and dark pink (of course!). :)

I made a few smooshed backgrounds last week using distress inks; Worn Lipstick, Fossilized Amber, and Wilted Violet.  This background was the second pull, using the leftover inks which means the colours are light.  I thought it worked well with the pink pansies.

I stamped my pansies in black ink and heat embossed with clear before watercolouring using my Gansai Tambi paints.  I rarely use these paints ... they work so differently from my usual distress inks.  It will take me a while to get comfortable with them.  I used a deep pinky red, watered down to create the soft pink and used with less water for the darker pink of my flowers.  I used leaf green for the stems and leaves and added a very bright yellow orange for the stamens of my flowers.

Once the panel was watercoloured, I cut it into an angled panel to place over my card base.  I stamped my sentiment (Faith.Hope.Love 30-800) in black ink with clear embossing, on a white strip of card stock so it stood out against the pansies.  I then popped up the panel with foam onto my card base.  I really like how this image fills the angled panel.

Close-up ...
I'm sending this card over to the Penny Black Saturday Challenge for April - Anything Goes with Optional "Easter".  I definitely used Easter colours. :)
And I'm also sending this to Color Hues #38 - Pink and Green Challenge.
Thanks for stopping by!

Gorgeous watercolored stamped and heat embossed pansies, Lolly. I LOVE your angled design and sentiment too. Stamping and heat embossing your pansies over your 2nd pull smooshed background gave a wonderful added dimension to your pansies without distracting from your WC pansies:-) I have been playing with my Gansai paints using Canson Cold Press paper and WC paints, which gives a whole different effect than with my MM papers. You should try WC your beautiful pansies on Cold Press paper...so much fun experimenting:-) TFS and always inspiring me, my friend. I want to try stamping and WC over a lightly 2nd pull smooshed background:-) We have so much fun sharing:-) Love and Big Hugs..Nancy

Beautiful pansies and perfect background for them! These large open images work well for watercolors and you do a nice job of it no matter the medium. I've enjoyed my Gansai Tambi paints but, yes, they are different. This is gorgeous, Loll!

How pretty is this, Loll! Love your background, watercolored pansies, and tilted panel. What a great greeting and so very true. Love that you joined us at Color Hues with this great entry! Take care!

I love the faces in pansies, too! These in pink are beautiful. (The Gansai definitely don't "move" as readily as distress inks, do they?) Thanks for joining us at Color Hues!

We call the mini pansies Monkey Faces because that is what they look like to us. lol Little monkey faces. Love your stamped pansies on your second generation background. You still watercolored beautifully with the Gansai Tambi paints and I love how you cut your panel on the angle like that. Hugs, Brenda

So pretty and pansies are such cheerful flowers, these look fab too. The muted background has just enough colour to be interesting without overpowering the blooms. :)
