Hi everyone. Playing along with a two challenges today, both which determined my card design.
First, "Can You Handle the Pressure?" - which is Anything Goes Dry Embossing with an optional twist of Butterflies. I hope one butterfly is OK. :) I've used two embossing folders for my main panel to create a double embossed panel. First, Woodgrain planks (SU!) and then embossed on top with Layered Leaves (SU!) - both folders are retired.
And also the Memory Box June Challenge - Metallic Mania. I used Gilding Flakes for the butterfly and gold ink for the sentiment and to add a tiny bit of sparkle to the background of the main panel. I used Memory Box Moonlight Butterfly die (retired) and Memory Box sentiment from Watching Bloom stamp set (also retired).
Seems like I used all retired items for this card. I find that companies now seem to retire their items quite quickly. SU! has always done that, but the other manufacturers are following suit. Too bad in my opinion. I hold on to ones that I love and continue to use them. The only company that rarely retired products if Penny Black - thank goodness!
Close-up ...
After double embossing my panel, I used a small sponge dauber to add a bit of Shabby Shutters distress ink on top of the leaf embossing, followed by a light dab of gold paint on top of the green. Hard to see in the photo, but the gold ink has a little sparkle in it and it shows up in real life. Thanks for coming by for a visit!

Can You Handle the Pressure? - optional twist of Butterflies
I LOVE the double embossing, Lolly! These embossing folders work beautifully together and I love how you've added a bit of color! And the butterfly! Oh, how pretty! I agree about these companies retiring their things so soon and then coming out with a "new release" that's so similar. I've invested a lot in stamping stuff and I'm not about to discard something I love because the companies want more of our money.
ReplyDeleteWhen it's one butterfly as fancy as this one, I think it totally counts! Marvelous card, Loll. Jessie is adorable. I think her twin lives on the next street over from us!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Loll, your gilding flake butterfly is gorgeous with all those gold and silver flakes. The photo of Jessie are wonderful. Alex is so talented ♥
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful Loll, and the planks and leaves embossing is so pretty also love the way you have inked the leaves up and added the gorgeous gilded butterfly and a lovely coordinating sentiment too. x
ReplyDeleteYour card is so pretty Loll! I am in love with how you did your butterfly, it is so pretty on the embossed panel. I swear every time I see photo's of Jessie, I fall in love with her all over again! That sweet face, how can I not?!! She would be in bed with me all the time, I'd definitely spoil her. lol But then again, the dogs in my life are spoiled by me too. Good think you live so far away Loll, I'd probably "steal" little Jessie! lol Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos of dear Jessie! Can't believe she is already 3!! And a beautiful card - love the gilded butterfly and that terrific double embossed background.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful double dry EB leaves background, Lolly. I love your blended colors that added to the texture of the background. Gorgeous shine and colors for the beautiful die cut butterfly..TFS the close up:-) Seems impossible that Jessie is already 3...she is so beautiful and sweet. Alex took such beautiful professional photos of Jessie. Thank you Alex:-) Thank you Lolly for sharing your beautiful card and the sweet photos. Love and Hugs...Nancy
ReplyDeleteYour double embossing is a neat trick Loll and I love your shimmery butterfly.
ReplyDeleteI too think that companies retire items far too readily these days but I assume they don't have the demand or it wouldn't happen.
Love those pics of Jessie, she looks so soulful but most CKSs do! :)
I love the double embossing, this technique gives a fabulous layered look and those two folders work so well together. Nice with the hint of colour too.
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly looks amazing and is the perfect addition.
Gorgeous photos of Jessie too ...... is she really 3 already!! xx
What a beautiful card Loll - love your butterfly and the gorgeous background you gave it.
ReplyDeleteJessie is one beautiful pup :)

What an amazing card, your butterfly definitely steals the show. I have seen several people get their gilding flakes out recently, it makes me want to do the same. I have to steal myself though as they are so messy! Thank you too for sharing the photos of your lovely Jessie xx
ReplyDeleteYour gilded butterfly is gorgeous, Loll. Hmmm. Double embossing. Sounds like a good technique to try.
ReplyDeleteJust love the effect of the woodgrain with the leaves over top, Loll - so pretty! And what a gorgeous metallic butterfly too!! Awww - sweet Jessie - bottom left is my fave!
ReplyDeleteI've never double embossed but love that look! How clever to do that. I also love that you added color to your background then complimenting it with that foiled butterfly. Thanks for the reminder to use supplies that are just sitting here collecting dust. Gorgeous card!
ReplyDeleteI'm back Loll because I was interrupted and left the comment in a hurry, and have just come back to say what beautiful photos of your sweet Jessie..I can't believe that she is three years old already. x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Thank you for sharing with us at CYHTP Challenge.
ReplyDeleteYour card is beautiful Loll, and I love the double embossing on your leaf background!! Your gold butterfly is also beautiful and really pops against your card! And I agree that products retire way too quickly these days...part of their marketing strategy I'm sure to get us to buy more...and more! (Of which I do...I'm quite addicted!!) And sweet, sweet Jessie!! She is so photogenic and completely ADORABLE! Happy, happy 3rd birthday Jessie!! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I really love your double embossed panel and thinking I must try that. It's nice that the second folder didn't flatten the first. The gilded butterfly is gorgeous! It really is too bad that sets are retired so quickly and I love that Penny Black doesn't do that. Jessie's photos are absolutely beautiful! Just look at that face! I want to sink my hands in her fur. She's so dang adorable! I'm a hopeless dog addict.
ReplyDeleteYour card is gorgeous, and I just love the metallic butterfly -- equally gorgeous is Jesse!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a stunning card. The double embossing made a wonderful, textured background for that gorgeous butterfly. I never think to use my gilding flakes and this is a great reminder of how beautiful they are. Happy birthday to Jessie. Alejandro captured all her moods from curious, kind of sad, alert and just on guard. She is a beautiful companion and deserves an extra treat on her special day.
ReplyDeleteOh Loll your double embossing is stunning and a beautiful background for that breathtaking butterfly. Those gilding flakes make is look out of this world. Swooning over this one!
ReplyDeleteLove your creative and unique background as much as the gorgeous Gilding Flaked butterfly, Loll! I've never tried double embossing. You inspired me to try it. Adding a soft color and a bit of gold on top of the leaf embossing worked wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing adorable Jessie's photos! I'm sure she's been comforting you more than ever these days.
Hideko xx
I have never tried double embossing, but I will now Loll. Thank you for the inspiration. Fabulous shimmery butterfly and such a beautiful card. So glad I caught up with this post, as not to miss the adorable Jessie x.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful card Loll, one of my favourite butterflies too, looks fabulous in the gilding flakes, Cathy x
ReplyDeleteBeautifully made double embossing. I have never tried this technique, but looking at this card I think I must try.
