Hi everyone. This month's CAS Mix Up Challenge is all about Emboss Resist. Nancy is hosting and she has found some wonderful video tutorials of different ways to do this fun and easy technique.
I started out with a technique that's been around for a long time, but I have never tried - Batik. Using a kraft card front, I stamped Full Bloom (Penny Black) in Versamark ink randomly in different directions to fill the page, heat embossing in clear as I went along. The next step is to make several folds in all different directions. The embossing powder cracks a bit when folding, but that is part of the technique. It exposes the fold lines down to the card base that are highlighted once colour is sponged on top. So cool.
I love the look of the exposed lines which create the Batik look (example of Balik artwork below).
Vintage Batik Artwork example
I sponged the panel with a mix of distress inks (Peeled Paint, Spiced Marmalade, and Crackling Campfire). Then cut the panel up to create two cards. I made the first with a popped up panel on white card base, adding a black banner with die-cut sentiment (Penny Black's Heartfelt). I made the second on a kraft card base (below). It was a smaller panel so I added the Full Bloom image stamped in Versamark and heat embossed at the bottom to balance. The sentiment (Banner Sentiments - Penny Black) is stamped in black ink.
Second card using same Batik panel ...
We are so happy to have Brenda (Inkspired to Stamp) as our Guest Designer this month. Welcome Brenda!!

I love these two cards! The colors are gorgeous, and I appreciate your explaining the techinque so well and clearly.
What a fabulous look you get with that technique, I have never tried it. Might have to change that. You have chosen the perfect stamp and colours to showcase that technique, both cards are gorgeous xx
That is such a great technique, Loll, and one I haven't tried before. Both cards are wonderful and I love the added stamping in the corner of the second one.
LOVE both your Batik Emboss Resist cards, Lolly!!! I can't believe I have never tried Batik techniques...so beautiful...I am So Inspired by your gorgeous creative cards..as always, my friend. You have my creative juices flowing:-) I don't think of it as a CAS technique...but it sure is when you use only a small area of a background...Wow! I must try!!! The video will be very helpful too. So many Gorgeous Emboss Resist CAS cards by our very talented Design Team and Guest Designer, Brenda. Love and Hugs..Nancy
Great result using the faux batik technique Loll - and it really does look like batik, especially in the earth tone colors you used! xx
Loll, you [and Bonnie both] have me wanting to have a go with that technique!
I love the stamps you've used today - so earthy and organic - love it stamped onto the card base as an extra added bit of botta bing!

What a great card and thanks for introducing me to another fun technique, one I've never heard of. I know I have to try this. Love those fall colors and love that you got two cards from one panel. Thank you for describing your process.
Isn't this a fun technique, Lolly? I love your color scheme and both layouts are wonderful to show this technique off!
Two PRETTY cards, Loll! I've never tried Batik, might have to give it a go!
This stamp is so pretty and perfect for this emboss resist Loll, and the added creases mimicing the look of Batik are something I have never tried but it does add another dimension to the background, and great that you managed to beautiful cards from the one piece, and love the clear embossed image repeated on the background of the second. x
Two awesome card designs Loll with such an interesting and fun technique. I enjoyed making my 2nd card this way using the Emboss Resist Batik version.
I was wondering how you got the darker veining in the background Loll. Two fab cards with another fab stamp. :)
I know of batik in fabric but this is new to me and your card is gorgeous. I can't wait to try this. I love the combination of colors you used and both cards are awesome. I'm so happy to be a part of this challenge.
I too have never tried the Batik technique, but I definitely will after seeing both of your BEAUTIFUL cards Loll! Thank you for the great instructions too! Lovely, lovely cards my friend!! Hugs. :0)
Two stunning examples of batik prints, Loll - oh my, just love them both! On card one I also love the black strip with the die cut sentiment and on card two the watermark full bloom in the bottom corner. Amazing cards!!
Beautiful cards, Loll! I love the rich colors and combination of the emboss resist and faux batik! The folds add a nice look! Sue N
Oh, yes, those folds make all the difference! Beautiful technique, colors, and card designs. I especially love the second card with the matching image stamped on the card base. So lovely!
two gorgeous cards Loll, the batik effect with the folds is beautiful ♥
Both faux batik cards are fantastic, Loll!
I love the organic and Asian feeling of the cards. The earthy ink colors on Kraft are gorgeous, and the effect of the faux batik is awesome! Thank you for the detailed explanation. I'd love to try the technique!
Hideko xx
Your Batik art is gorgeous, Lolly! I've never tried it so it was really interesting to learn about it. I love the first card, but when I scrolled down to the second one, I stopped in mid-scroll and gasped. I LOVE this design! The colors are like stained glass and then adding the stamp onto the card panel for balance is genius! Love, Dolly
Beautiful results from that batik technique. I remember trying it once but had lousy results so I'm extra impressed. Beautiful colours!
Two gorgeous cards, Loll. Love the colors - makes me think of Fall and pumpkin pie.
Both cards look beautiful, gorgeous colours. I really must give the faux batik a try xx
Two beautiful cards Loll, love the batik look, the bottom one is my fave with the image stamped again at the bottom, love the colours, Cathy x
Two lovely cards. I love the first card with all its techniques. But the second card with its subtlety simply charmed me. I love how you repeated the twig motif on the card base
xx
Both designs are gorgeous, but I really love the green and gold -and I didn't know this technique was called batik. So striking the way that you've used it with the colors on both cards! Hugs & TFS. Mary H.
