Hi everyone. Today I'm playing along with the current challenge at Peace on Earth - #21. I was inspired to join in after seeing the beautiful DT card made by my friend Susan. Thanks Susan!
LOVE all the gorgeous images in blue, silver and white that are part of the mood board for the challenge ...
I've made two blue Christmas cards today. The first one (above), started with a stencil (Layering Poinsettia - Tim Holtz), sponged with two shades of blue distress ink (Broken China, Chipped Sapphire). I used a small sponge dauber to added colour to the poinsettias, and then a very small round brush to add colour to the holly leaves. This helped to keep the colours separated. Once finished, I used a permanent silver pen (Pilot) to outline both the poinsettias and holly leaves. I die-cut a top piece using a curved and stitched die (Stitched Borders die - Pretty Pink Posh). The sentiment (Season's Gifts - Penny Black) is stamped and heat embossed in silver.

For this card, I used a NBUS (never-before-used-schtuff) stamp set from AliExpress of poinsettias. I heat embossed the flowers in white before watercolouring in two shades of blue distress inks (Tumbled Glass, Broken China) ... this is Emboss Resist technique.
I added a thin white frame (Fine Frames Square Dies - Altenew) to my card base and then added the fussy-cut poinsettia's on top, layering them to create dimension. I finished my CAS design with a die-cut Joy (also AliExpress) from blue watercoloured paper.

I'm also sending this over to NBUS Challenge #41 (second entry). :)And, I'm also sending this to CAS Mix Up August Challenge - Emboss Resist.

Peace on Earth #21 - Anything Christmas Goes
Both cards are exquisite, Loll! The design of your first card is one for the books. Simple, yet striking. The poinsettia stencil is next level with the silver lining and the colors. The softness of your second card is like a pillow for my eyes. Such a pretty blue. Glad I don't have to pick a favorite!
ReplyDeleteTwo beautiful Christmas cards from you today. there is nothing not to like. I think it is the colours and silver highlights that make them special xx

ReplyDeleteTwo lovely cards, Loll!
ReplyDeleteTwo beauties, Lolly! Love the stenciled flowers and how the silver pen outline makes them stand out so beautifully! The second card is a jaw dropper! Love these sweet flowers with their pretty blue petals!
ReplyDeleteI love the different blues on your more modern poinsettia card, Loll. The leaves on the watercolored card look so fragile and lovely.
ReplyDeletetwo gorgeous cards Loll, I love the contemporary curved edge for the sentiment and the beautiful blue on the first and the classic elegance of the second ♥

Two blue beauties Loll and I'm loving both of them! I really like how you added to the stenciled leaves with the Posca pen on the first card and really made them stand out! Your water colored Poinsettia's are just as beautiful on your CAS 2nd card! Lovely, lovely cards my friend!! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteI love that song and I love these two sensationally blue Christmas cards! Just WOWZA, Lolly! The designs are so pretty and your shades of blue are so icy and perfect for Christmas. I don't think I've ever colored a poinsettia blue and I'm giving that a go now. Your soft coloring makes it look like they were white heat-embossed onto vellum and colored from the back. Mwah! Well done using more NBUS, too! Love, Dolly
ReplyDeleteBefore I can comment I need to wipe the drool off my face! These are so beautiful, Loll. Done in my favorite color and just stunning. I love the design of the first card and the coloring on the second card is so soft. I love them both.
ReplyDeleteThese are both stunning in the blue with silver and the blue and white Loll. I love the curved white stitched piece with that wonderful ornate sentiment..like a super snowy bank, and then the second has that lovely thin square frame to show off more beautiful poinsettias and a pretty die cut sentiment in matching blue..a delightfully CAS card. x
ReplyDeleteWow, these two cards are stunning and they are great takes on the mood board, Loll! The light blue looks so beautiful and elegant against the white backgrounds. Outlining the stenciled images with a silver pen gave them a good definition. The simple white-on-white thin square frame and the watercolored die-cut sentiment are so tastefully done. And you did a great job of fussy-cutting THREE poinsettias! Love both cards!
ReplyDeleteHideko xx
Beautiful cards Loll - love blue and silver, and you have made a stunner with those two colours. The second card is gorgeous too
