Hi everyone. I recently watched a video by Gina K and thought this was such a cool technique. It basically turns solid stamped images (or stenciled images) into the look of a dry embossed image with dimension.
I tried to replicate my success using other colours of card stock, colours of ink that I had in my stash, and solid stamps, but didn't have any success. For now, this will be a "one of" design. :)
I used the Fading Florals stencil from Simon Says Stamp, inking it with Bermuda Bay ink (SU!) on the same coloured card stock. I inked it a couple of times to strengthen the colour. I then moved my stencil ever so slightly before inking again, this time in Lost Shadow DOX ink. So happy with how it turned out. I adhered the card front to my base and then stamped a sentiment (Simply Sentiments - Lawn Fawn) to finish the card.
I'm sending the above card to July's Stencil Fun Challenge - optional theme Birthdays!
Close-up ...
I do remember something similar to this technique many years ago, but I don't think it involved pigment and definitely not DOX inks that weren't around at that time.

ReplyDeleteStunning card, Loll. What an effective technique, thanks for link to the video. xx
ReplyDeleteI definitely thought that was dry embossed when I first saw it! Great job on getting that effect!
ReplyDeleteCool technique it really does give a 3d effect to the stenciling ♥
ReplyDeleteAwesome faux dry embossing look for your stenciled image, Lolly. Your added off the stencil just a tad for your added shadow worked great! TFS my friend. Love and Hugs...
ReplyDeleteThis technique worked really well with the stencil, Lolly! Love the shadow effect!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool technique Loll and I just LOVE how your card turned out! It really does look like embossing with an embossing folder! Definitely a CAS beauty my friend!! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteA great result Loll, and I do love the way you have used the colours, so subtle and a beautiful result - yes, I remember the technique from 'way back', and I think one layer of colour was white, rather than dark - I was never successful.

I have seen this technique before but you have made it come to life for me, Loll. Te shadow stenciling really gives the image a lot of dimension.
ReplyDeleteGreat card, Loll! The shadow is cool looking! Oxide inks were such a great invention! Sue N
ReplyDeleteAmazing, I really thought you had embossed and coloured. A VERY clever effect and a beautiful card.

Wow, I thought you HAD used an embossing folder until I read that you didn't. This is so cool looking as it certainly looks raised as if it was embossed. Very cool card indeed! Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteThat looks wonderful and very clever. what a shame you had trouble replicating it. that's often the way with me. first time things work brilliantly, then it all goes wrong! xx
ReplyDeleteWell, this is just too cool for school! I totally thought it was embossed. Fantastic, Loll! I bookmarked the video to watch later. One of many techniques I may someday get around to trying. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job with the technique, Loll! Love the little bit of shadow you achieved. Lovely card!
ReplyDeleteVery fun technique and pretty results! Love that it does look like dimensional embossing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great technique and love the shadow you got which really makes it look 3D Loll, and such beautiful shades of blue. I think I must give this a try. x
ReplyDeleteLovely card, off to watch the video.
ReplyDeleteWOW! This looks fantastic .... I really thought it was embossed! xx
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! Great job with this technique. I’ve also seen this technique referred to as shadow stencilling and stencil shifting. Go figure. 🤷🏻♀️
ReplyDeleteLove love love this Loll. Checked Gina's video and it is a great technique that you have mastered so beautifully. Fabulous colour choice.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cool idea and a great effect. I often find if I try and replicate, it doesn't work as well. Anyway this is a beautiful one off.
ReplyDeleteYes - this technique is a bit tricky and seems to depend on the stamp and the colors??!! This one is spot on - and looks SO dimensional! love it!
