I started by using a sponge brush to add Salvaged Patina Distress Ink to the bottom and up past the middle of the card, fading out at the top. I then stamped the image in black ink and clear heat embossed. I used a watercolour paint brush and a little water (not too much at a time otherwise it might bleed into the background), I went over the birch tree, cardinals, and ornaments, blotting with a paper towel to remove the blue ink. I let that dry before watercolouring the rest of the image.
This was quick to paint as there's only the one birch tree, two birds and three ornaments. Once I was done watercolouring, I splattered the background with diluted white acrylic paint. I also used my white Posca pen to add snow to some of the tree branches (hard to see in the photos). To finish, I tore two layers of snowhills for the bottom, stamping the sentiment (Christmas Sentiments - Penny Black) in black ink at the bottom of the card.

ReplyDeleteLovely scene Loll, never seen a cardinal but they certainly give your card the festive feel with the red plumage. :)
ReplyDeleteI just added this stamp to my wish list, Loll. Loving cardinals goes without saying, but everytime I go to our summer place in northern Michigan I am taken with the birch trees, one of my favorites. You really brought the scene to life with your wonderful coloring.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely BEAUTIFUL card Loll! Love everything from your faded background to the tree and those sweet little cardinals! And the ornaments too! Beautifully water colored my friend...LOVE it!! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteThese cardinals are lovely. They are wondering what in the world are these things hanging in their tree! Beautiful water coloring, Loll.
ReplyDeleteThis is really beautiful Loll, and the blended background in that super blue is seamless, and the pretty red cardinals and green baubles and the silvery grey for the wonderful birch tree really sing out. I love the pieces of torn paper for the snow too which work well, and give you a nice white space for the lovely sentiment. x
