IDEAS July - Inks / Colour Mediums

Hi everyone.  This is for a very special friend for her birthday, so I delayed adding it to the IDEAS Challenge ("I - Inks/Colour Mediums") until today. :)  HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR FRIEND!!

I used my stamp/stencil/die from Pinkfresh Studios (already retired) to create the card above.  I started by stamping the image in Black pigment ink, setting with my heat tool and then adding stenciling with Distress Inks:  Kitsch Flamingo, Picked Raspberry, Shabby Shutters, and Peeled Paint.  I think it's just me, but I have a hard time lining up the stencils so they match the stamped image.  In the end, I only used a couple of the stencil layers to add ink with small, detail sponges.  I then went over the whole image and watercoloured, adding more ink to create shadows and depth.

Close-up ...
I die-cut the image, popping it up over a dry embossed background (Stampin' Up! - retired).  It's hard to see in the photo, but adds something special to the card.  I added a black banner stamped with white heat embossed sentiment (Simply Sentiments - Lawn Fawn).

I'm sending my card to Darnell's IDEAS July Challenge - Inks / Color Mediums.  Since it's a birthday card, I'm also sending it to Seize the Birthday #286 - Anything Birthday Goes.  Thanks to all that run these fun challenges to help me decide what to make today. :)

  4. What a gorgeous card Loll, and I think I know who the lovely lady is that is receiving it, and the pink flowers are just so beautiful and the embossed background beneath them is just enough to complement without overpowering them. I think the combination of stencilling with watercolouring has worked really well too. x

  7. Beautiful, Loll! Love your colors and pretty image. I definitely agree that "layered" things can be a struggle to line up, though I've heard it said that they're made to do that -- it's artsy! Well, I'll take the mis-aligned stencils over the mis-aligned layered stamps any day!!

  11. What a fab card Loll, the recipient will love it I'm sure. Those blousy blooms just shriek summer, shame mine are well behind in the garden. What with the awful wet the slugs are having a field day and don't get me talking about those pesky rabbits!! :)

  12. Water coloring over the image gave such a soft look to the flowers. This is lovely and sure to be a hit.

  13. Bold, bright and absolutely BEAUTIFUL Loll! Not all Pinkfresh Studio stencils line up perfectly, and they do that purposely on some of them to give a more loosely colored look. I have several of their stencils that don't line up and it drives me crazy...too anal about things like that, so it's not just you my friend! But anyway, your card is gorgeous and sure to be loved!! Hugs. :0)
